For a budget hotel, Mountain View House was a quiet and comfortable (though quite basic) accommodation. I rate it 4-stars comparing the nightly price for what you get overall. I had a mountain view room at 270k, which featured a large bed (mattress was a little on the hard side....somewhere between medium and hard), air-conditioning, wall fan, a small set of table & chairs, a bedside table and a private, wet-style bathroom (with a very good supply of hot water). There was no complimentary water supplied with the room, and bathroom supplies were extremely thrifty and lacked proper soap. My room was clean and functional, and it was sufficient for my two nights. The view of the mountain from my room was unobstructed, but the only drawback is that it overlooks the main road. This can occasionally get a little noisy, especially with the drivers of the sleeper buses getting over enthusiastic with their horn tooting!! However, it was far from unbearable. Mountain View House has a large undercover section at the front, which is good for parking motorbikes. This section also doubles as their restaurant area, inclusive of a free to use pool table. (Prices for the beverages within their fridge are expensive [20k for Coke etc], and you are better off purchasing these externally. Many marts close by, and Winmart is only short walk down the road). When I stayed, Phong Nha was rather quiet, so the hotel was peaceful. Though this may change when it is busy and you may get disturbed by in-house noise as the rooms are not too well...
