My recent visit to ONOMA in Lusaka offered a delightful escape to the Mediterranean, with an ambiance that truly encapsulates the essence of Greece.
The restaurant's Greek-inspired menu and fresh ingredients provided a culinary journey that was mostly satisfying, though not without its hiccups.
The decor and surroundings at ONOMA are its strongest suit, transporting you to a Greek island with its white & blue tones and rustic elements. The menu boasts an array of Greek delicacies, and while some of the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food justifies the cost to a certain extent.
Our meal began on a high note with a complimentary dip and bread that was quite flavorful. The DIP SELECTION starter was a mixed bag; the 'tarama' was delightful, and the 'tzatziki' was satisfactory, but the 'spicy feta cheese cream' lacked a certain zing, while the 'hummus' dip's recipe could benefit from a revisit. The CRISPY BABY MARROW & EGGPLANT starter was enjoyable, though the eggplant was a tad too oily for our liking. The main course, BABY MARROWV & BUCATINI PASTA was decent but fell short due to a scant sauce that left the pasta feeling a bit dry. Desserts were the highlight, with the MILOPITA being exceptionally tasty and the RICE PUDDING ranking as one of the best I had in Lusaka, though a larger portion would have been appreciated.
Unfortunately, the service missed the mark by forgetting our HORIATIKI salad, and the fresh juice mix was just average.
My main critique, however, lies with the auditory experience. The music was about 20% louder than preferred, and the absence of Greek tunes in a Greek establishment was a noticeable omission. It's perplexing why a restaurant so steeped in Greek culture would not play authentic Greek music.
In conclusion, while ONOMA has much to offer, there's room for improvement in terms of culinary execution and the overall sensory experience. Despite these areas for enhancement, I am inclined to return, at least to be able try HORIATIKI salad this time, or hopeful for a more refined...
Read moreAn Exceptional Dining Experience at Onomo Restaurant – Lusaka
We had the pleasure of dining at Onomo Restaurant in Lusaka on two separate occasions, and both experiences were absolutely outstanding.
On our first visit, we tried the Aged T-bone Goat meat, and it was a true culinary delight. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and grilled to perfection—rich in flavor and wonderfully satisfying. On our second night, we opted for the Chicken Souvla, and again, we were impressed. The chicken was juicy, well-marinated, and had that authentic chargrilled taste that brings out the best in this dish. To balance the hearty mains, we also ordered a Greek Salad, which was fresh, crisp, and generously portioned. The dressing complemented the salad beautifully and brought a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the meat dishes.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is another standout feature. Whether you're seated indoors or enjoying the open-air section, the ambiance is warm, inviting, and stylish. The decor is modern with subtle local touches, and the lighting creates a relaxed and upscale dining experience. It’s the kind of place that’s perfect for both a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends and family.
Service was also top-notch—attentive, friendly, and efficient. The staff made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of without being intrusive. We appreciated the thoughtful recommendations and their knowledge of the menu.
