I've always loved Urban yard but can be sceptical about going there because the service can be hit or miss. When I went through, I was hoping to be seated outside, but it was a Saturday evening and they were quite full so we almost left but our waiter found us a cute little spot out of the way that gave us both privacy and outdoor space. It can take forever to be served, but this last time I went, my date and I were served by both the waiter and the manager which was really good.
The food is usually on point but there are times when I go in and they're out of one thing or another. We ordered the Malawian Shandys, the bar platter and an extra side of chips so we could chat and eat. My waiter suggested that we could swap out the wedges that the platter originally comes with for fries, which we did, but it was great to have the extra side as well. The shandys were quite small, so by the time the food came back, we had to order more drinks to top up.
The platter itself looked good but the pork belly wasn't cooked well enough and the gizzards were so chewy they tasted like they had been boiled. Everything else was up to standard although, my date wasn't very impressed with the dressing on the salad.
All in all would I go back? Yes. It's extremely convenient, the vibes are great so it's cute for cocktails, dates and even Sunday lunches. Plus it's very...
Read moreI had not seen or heard of this place prior to it being recommended on my Google maps. It's a little hard to find but was worth paying a visit to.
The service was great, our waiter was Aaron and he was dependable throughout the night. He made suggestions and took criticism/notes of what we thought about the place, the food and the service in general. He had a positive attitude which made the whole experience better.
The food was surprisingly good. My starter was the crayfish delight, which was fresh and honestly tasty. When I saw the seafood skewer(prawns, salmon and vegetables) I was so sure that it was just laced in sauce and would taste bland but it had a lot of flavor. I felt no need to try out the dessert as I was full from the other food but I hope I can check it out next time, it came highly recommended by Aaron.
I enjoyed the fact that it had different seating areas according to what you'd like. Aaron showed us around and made sure we were comfortable with our choice before giving us time to order. I had a good experience with this...
Read moreAtmosphere is fine. Dinner service was very poor with no staff checking in from time to time, intervals of 30 minutes literally. Was seated in a secluded corner. Food took over an hour to come, that too after several follow ups. Pasta was average, Pork chops were overcooked, hard and chewy. Sweet Red wine was served in a Margarita glass which I found odd. Ordered Four Cousins Sweet Red which I often drink but it tasted a tad diluted. Provided feedback on the Pork chops to the manager Belinda. Said they would try better next time while resisting my request to speak to the chef, but left falsely saying the chef would come. Waited for a while and no one came through. Spoke to the owner on departure who seemed to comment only the pork fat (rind) as being hard, even without having tasted or making an attempt at cutting into the meat. Also stated that I should have informed them earlier - but then again how to do so when no service staff are passing by. The fact remains that the pork was very...
