Disgustingly SWEET soup, Not authentic Chinese food. The herbal Chinese soup was disgustingly SWEET for some reason… like why… no Chinese herbal soup is sweet first of all… but all the Thai dishes I’ve had tend to be very sweet (byproduct of Americanization of SEA) It tasted really gross and my partner and I could not even eat half of it. -10/10 for this dish. It’s like drinking syrup soup with meat and noodles inside. We also tried the original noodle soup which was slightly better (not sweet, more SALTY but not very flavorful except chili oil) but not great, 5.5/10. I don’t understand how this place can have 4.8 with 1000+ reviews? This is ridiculous, maybe fake reviews. Maybe the local people have been accustomed to disgustingly sweet stuff and don’t mind it…but this DOES NOT taste like actual Chinese noodle soup (it will never be sweet), but I’ve had a lot of Thai or Thai-Chinese soups that were sweet and off tasting. Just avoid this place. I can recommend 5 other great noodle restaurants across the street.
If you want real authentic Chinese noodle soup that isn’t sweet (no noodle soup should be sweet which is a crime), there’s Xi An Yiam on the Main Street and another Chinese halal restaurant right next to it that makes authentic Lanzhou beef noodles. And every other noodle place in the region is probably better.
Btw I’m American and couldn’t handle the amount of sugar in the soup or other places that put so much sugar in Thailand… also shocked at how Americanized food in SEA is now… just fried, oily and...
Read moreWe were a bit hesitant to try this despite the raving reviews because we were looking for local food and La Mian gave the impression that this place sold Chinese noodles. The signature beef noodles here are more of a Thai Chinese fusion, resembling the Thai beef soup, with a spicy paste mixed into the soup. The herbal version tastes very similar to the signature version without the spicy paste.
We are very impressed with the beef soup noodles. The beef was tender and flavourful, having soaked up the flavours from being stewed over a sufficiently long time. The broth was very tasty, while not stealing the limelight from the beef. Even though I'm a fan of the Thai rice noodles, I actually prefer the HK egg noodles here, which are springy and catches the broth better in my opinion.
Price is extremely reasonable and when we went on a Saturday, seats were readily available at dinner time. Place is clean enough at this price point.
Staff is attentive, and when they saw that we were struggling with the heat, they gave us another bowl of broth to dilute the spice.
Loved this place, would definitely be back whenever...
Read moreThis use to be one of my favorite spots to go to and I remember that when the owner is there. Service and quality is really good when she's around. We went by today and ordered both beef and pork dishes. They served all Beef dishes and only came to ask it when we already started eating if it was okay that the Pork dish we originally ordered is Beef! Immediately the one eating had to spit it out as they were not allowed to have beef. There was no sense of real apologies and they said they'llmake it again. Even after the mistake we expected some sort of good service but we asked to get the refilled drink 3 times and all we got was please wait, ended up only being able to get it refilled once. If you're charging for a refill drink, it's expected that it will be refilled. Service was really disappointing today considering that we loved this place and this time brought someone to try. Service is key and doesn't matter how good the food is, please keep it consistent like when the...
