What was the name of the service? 11am Sunday Mass - Trinity Sunday How full was the building? 30-40% full, about 100 people Did anyone welcome you personally? No Was your pew comfortable? Standard wooden pew, but only 1 hour service so good enough How would you describe the pre-service atmosphere? Some choir and organ practice, otherwise quiet and prayerful What were the exact opening words of the service? We forgot to note them down – we think it may have been ‘May the peace of the Lord be with you’ What books did the congregation use during the service? A service sheet What musical instruments were played? Organ Did anything distract you? Nothing Was the worship stiff-upper-lip, happy clappy, or what? Beautifully Catholic in every way - at times, latin flavoured. Exactly how long was the sermon? 6m41s On a scale of 1-10, how good was the preacher? We gave him 4, 4, and 1. In a nutshell, what was the sermon about? The trinity, kind of. The priest summarised the readings and said something vague and instantly forgettable about the trinity. Which part of the service was like being in heaven? The choir singing And which part was like being in... er... the other place? Nothing What happened when you hung around after the service looking lost? We exited and was greeted by the priest outside How would you describe the after-service coffee? Alas, there was no coffee. How would you feel about making another visit (where 10 = ecstatic, 0 = terminal)? Our scores were 1, 6, and 8 Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian? Yes, thrice. What one thing will you remember about all this in seven days' time ? The choir. Final thoughts: This is a wonderful Catholic Church connected with the University and run by Jesuits. The building is a masterpiece and is well attended on Sunday and throughout the week....

Read moreAfter seeing the bad review, I feel compelled to describe my experience at the Holy Name. It is a Jesuit Roman Catholic church, with a wonderful support team. The choir, together with the organist play at the midday mass on Sunday and occasionally there are organ concerts. The organ is one of the last ones in Europe to have all the original tubes and still in use. The experience of the mass is also wonderful, especially when the sun comes through the stained glass. The building itself is a piece of art. I'd highly recommend checking the baptistery, which has a suspended heavy cover which can be lifted with one finger, due to its suspended mechanism. There's accessible entrance, heating. In the next door chaplaincy there's free Wi-Fi, toilets, and a lot of facilities for students, including the toasties and coffee/tea/biscuits. The priests are highly educated, yet very humble. The homilies are always balanced...
