Nestled in the heart of New Farm, the Jan Powers Farmers Markets at the Powerhouse is a vibrant, bustling gem that perfectly captures the spirit of Brisbane’s local food and community scene. Every Saturday morning, this market transforms the riverside precinct into a lively hub of fresh produce, local delicacies, and warm, authentic connections between vendors and visitors. One of the standout features of this market is the sheer variety of stalls. From farm-fresh fruit and vegetables to locally sourced meat products and handmade artisanal goods, there’s something to delight every type of shopper – whether you’re looking for your weekly groceries or a unique treat. The quality of the produce is exceptional, with an emphasis on seasonal and locally grown items that support regional farmers and sustainable practices. Coffee lovers and beverage enthusiasts will be pleased to find numerous stalls offering a wide range of drink options. Whether you’re after a strong, barista-brewed coffee to start your morning, a refreshing fresh juice, or a specialty tea, there’s no shortage of expertly prepared drinks to enjoy as you explore. Many stalls are run by passionate locals who are always happy to share their knowledge or offer a sample. The atmosphere is another highlight. The markets are not just a place to shop – they’re an experience. There’s a palpable sense of community and engagement, with visitors chatting with stallholders, families enjoying breakfast together, and live music occasionally adding to the ambiance. It’s a space that encourages you to slow down, take your time, and really savour the morning. Visiting in the early morning is especially enjoyable. The riverside location combined with the morning sun creates a relaxed and refreshing setting that’s hard to beat. It’s easy to see why this market has become a staple in the local weekend routine and a favorite for both Brisbane residents and visitors alike. In summary, the Jan Powers Farmers Markets – Powerhouse is a well-organized, welcoming, and highly enjoyable market that offers a wide range of fresh, local products and a true community experience. Whether you’re a foodie, a coffee enthusiast, or simply looking for a pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning, this market is absolutely worth a visit.

This is an 'early opener' market, by default. People often come at around 5:30 am, to avoid "the rush" but that rush may not occur until a good hour or so later. It's a popular spot on Saturday as there's ample parking in the parking lot near the main entrance just off the roundabout at the end of Lamington Street, near the dog walking park, as well as on the ring road in New Farm Park. There's a Merlo coffee van at the river end of the Powerhouse precinct and toilets down the other end right on the ring road. The main pedestrian entrance is off the roundabout at the end of Lamington Street, where you can buy the weekend papers, say hello to familiar faces and begin your market day journey in a relaxed kind of way. The various stalls offer up a good variety of fruit and vegetables, as well as local honey, home baked goods and on the spot cooked foods such as Bratwurst sausages and genuine free range week old eggs! The venue has atmosphere with the hustle and bustle of trade as well as a country and western singer who busks while enjoying a chat with friendly locals as they pass by. Local service clubs have occasional fundraising events here and there's opportunities to enjoy both the park and the rivers boardwalk after your shopping is done for the day... UPDATED TRAVEL NOTES as of 20-10-2018 Please note that the nearby City Cat terminal upgrade has now been completed and is open for business once more. If you're coming in by bus, the 196 service from Fairfield Gardens via Southbank and the City has two bus stops either side of Brunswick Street, right near the corner of Oxlades Drive in New Farm. It's just a brisk five minute walk from there to the markets, across the park.

Another perfect Saturday morning at Jan Power's Farmers Market at the Powerhouse in New Farm Park today. This is not your budget market, but if you're after high quality, fresh produce, this market has it in abundance. Fruit and vege, including organic, fresh meat and seafood, and a thoughtfully curated selection of other food products like pasta, olives, and whole foods, sit alongside heaps of 'cook on the spot' outlets to choose from. There are also stalls selling clothes, jewellery, plants, and various craft items, but there's nothing 'junky' or imported. There's coffee, of course, from a number of stalls, French pastry warm from the oven, heaps of dogs, (yes, it's dog-friendly) and live music with shadey places to sit. I always leave feeling uplifted. It has such a happy, positive atmosphere.
