Buckle up your in for a ride
Let me take you back to 24th January 2022, it was my 30th birthday and after discussing dinner plans with my mum, she convinced me to give The Boatshed some thought. It’s a little pricey in comparison with my usual $10 local steak special, but as I was on my mums dime I thought ‘why not’!
We invited my brothers family, and 4 of my best friends to come and try Brisbanes best steak. I was a little nervy, but gave the eye fillet a hot crack. UNREAL. Literally melted in my mouth. Also that maple bacon could make pigs fly. Everyone was happy. Great memories made!
Fast forward to last week, we were discussing a mates bday dinner and I threw out into the universe everyone coming to my newly favourite steak restaurant. After some convincing they all agreed.
I was a bit nervous leading upto today - would it be as good as I remember?
Our waitress Amber was fantastic. She explained with ease the different types of steaks and provided her recommendation. We all settled on the sirloin with a mix of toppings. One by one out meals came out and we were delighted.
One of our local group members, who I shall call Karen, was a tough critic. She made Amber and Ben’s night extra difficult by switching and swapping and asking for drinks not on the menu. Amber, and the rest of the team, handled it all so perfectly and with a genuine smile.
I was so full by the end i thought i might explode or I would have to be rolled out the door, but I managed to find a smidge of room for dessert. The sticky date pudding. Wow. Wowowowowo. Honestly would go back just to lick that caramel off the plate.
The staff put a sparkler in our friends dessert and honestly they were just the best. Shout out to Amber and Benn for all their hard work! There was one other guy but I am so sorry I can’t remember his name!
All in all it was a great experience, my reputation for knowing good restaurants is still intact and I will absolutely be...
Read moreWhat surprised me about our most recent visit to the famous Regatta Hotel, on a busy Sunday evening, was how quick and efficient the service was, despite the fact that the place was packed, inside and outside. I guess most people, like us, had come to take advantage of their generous January promo of 50% of all food and drink between 5-6pm.
And what a win that was. Four of us dined and we ordered three steaks, a steak sandwich, two schooners of Kosciuszko Pale Ale, a cold drink and a glass of sparkling wine, and it all came to a reasonable $67.
We managed to find ourselves a table outside, which was just as well. It was a warm, muggy, summer evening, perfect for “alfresco” dining and in any event, indoors was hellishly noisy. And full marks to our friendly waitress, who went out of her way to set up the table for us, and to make sure that we were comfortable. Despite the racket indoors, outside it was laid back, cool and relaxing and we enjoyed our evening.
We did our ordering through the app, and that went off smoothly, this being the second time we’ve done that, so I guess we’ve got the hang of it now. The drinks came out fairly quickly, and it only took about 15 minutes for the main meals to arrive, an outstanding effort given how busy it was. And our servers were all polite, efficient and helpful.
I ordered the rump steak with gravy. It was well cooked, the way I like it with a nice serve of crunchy chips and a nutritious and colourful side salad. My wife's sirloin came with BBQ sauce, which added a nice tangy flavour to the meat.
Toilets are inside: They’re modern, clean and well provisioned, but they can get a bit crowded.
This place is clearly a big favourite with the locals, and it’s not hard to see why. It hums like a well oiled machine, no matter how many people they have...
Read moreWe booked the Regatta for a large family event (80th birthday party), and it was the most disappointing experience ever. I would prefer to give no stars for any aspect of the event!. Food was inedible, staff were rude and room very bland. Zero thought or connection with the event, just a dirty old room on the second floor of hotel. Function was a sit-down lunch for 25 people and one guest waited 45 minutes for their food after everyone else ate. Despite many requests for where the missing meals were - the staff just disappeared out of the room. No excuses, no apologies. We reset the table on arrival as cutlery just thrown on table. We had a special birthday cake and were given paper plates to serve. It was just outrageously (and embarrassingly) poor service. Sides were delivered after the mains were plonked on the table, and genuinely no care was taken by anyone there. In the event planning, we were offered very limited choices for food - no ability to have steaks prepared anything other than medium. Steaks all came out at different cuts and cooked to varying degrees - some rare some very well done but most of all the majority were served cold. Chicken dish was inedible. Cheesecake dessert was no more than 2 mouthfuls. Expensive, overrated and very poor and disappointing. Function staff for the hotel are based in Perth - so no one in hotel cared one bit on the day. We made the most of it but will never even go back to the hotel now. What a terrible waste of such an iconic Brisbane hotel. Choose elsewhere for any event. They may be aok with a burger and chips in the front bar - but don't expect anything else with their events. Wrote to the hotel and offered the feedback and despite waiting for over 2 weeks since - they haven't even...
