I grew up in the 60's & 70's with my house backing onto the park. Played hockey for St Andrews for many years and had a great time. Was around when they dredged and widened the creek and you could walk across the bottom collecting fish and crabs. The hockey fields lost some space when they widened the creek and I think they lost a playing field. A horse named Lucky was in the park for many years and we feed him bread and the occasional apple. Monkey bars and swings where in the park behind the club house but were taken away when the creek works were done, we would pile up the grass cuttings from when they slashed the park into big piles and use the swing to fly into them as high as we could. The creek was a good feed for eels mud crabs and craw fish which we cook up in mums copper washing kettle. Trips on our home made surfboards down to the Brisbane river were a frequent adventure.
