In my opinion, the venue and the associated facilities (especially for kids) is what sells this place. What lets it down is the food and service.
So, the venue is fab - bright and airy with views either side of the bistro and amazing al fresco areas. Plenty of seating available, with a slight ‘Grounds of Alexandria’ vibe about it. The kids facilities are truly wonderful - an outdoor playground, jumping castle and plenty my of space to run around in view of the deck area. Tick, tick, tick!
Now, the service... I would describe it as average. Our greeting was lacklustre and when we asked whether we could move closer to the kids area (we have a toddler), the staff looked less than impressed or willing to assist. The bistro team leader deserves a special mention for her lack of smile and complete absence of friendliness. I would actually go so far as to describe her as rude or surly (or perhaps she just resented having to work on New Years Day). Thy being said, the girl who took our food order at the bistro (she had an American accent from memory) was quite lovely.
Finally, the food. This was by far the biggest opportunity for improvement... we ordered around 8 meals and sides between us and all agreed that the chips were the most edible item we ordered. The two pizzas, calamari, salad and wings were all left half finished - once hunger was sated there was no desire to continue eating (which says a lot!) The main issue was flavour... in that there was none.
So in summary, I would return to enjoy the venue, but not the food. It would be a fab place for a Sunday sesh where you order a couple of bottles of wine, and a few small dishes to snack on whilst enjoying views of the city. But it’s certainly not a place to attend when you intend to linger over and enjoy and quality meal. Amazing for families (who...

Read moreFor a casual bistro the food is extremely expensive for what you get which wasn’t great either. With close to fine dining prices, I guess one would at least expect quality food and a decent size portion. The garlic bread was ok, but pretty light on the seasoning, butter & garlic. The caprese salad was small for the price with very little condiments or flavour & looked nothing like the one pictured on the menu. The calamari was very average and looked like it was frozen out of a packet, the beef burger was very small with little filling and a bland tasteless beef patty which only got half eaten, with a few chips on the side & for $24 was extremely disappointing, but worst of all was the crab fettuccine with very undercooked chewy pasta, a very overbearing caper and pesto taste and little to no crab which was hard to find and no crab flavour whatsoever. It was so difficult to get anyones attention or service, but I finally managed to speak to someone about it after waiting at the counter and I handed the pasta back. I wasn’t offered another meal in its place, but rather told if I wanted to take it home & heat it in the microwave then it might cook it a bit more & ‘soften it up’ and I waited patiently for a better outcome. The food had taken so long to arrive in the first place and came out spasmodically, so the idea of ordering another meal and waiting again after everyone else had a similar experience & had already finished and wanted to leave was less than appealing. Eventually I just asked for a refund on the pasta & we left hungry so just went home & cooked & ate again. Considering we spent quite a bit between us then still left hungry and unsatisfied, it was on a whole a bad experience...
