The Big Bench in Broken Hill is one of the iconic 'Big' attractions scattered throughout Australia! At first glance, some might notice the peeling paint and the fact that it's set atop a hill formed from a heap of mineral debris from the Line of Lode mines—details that might seem a bit underwhelming after a long 1000+ km drive. But don’t let that distract you!

The real magic of The Big Bench is the breathtaking views it can offer of Broken Hill on a clear day and the genuine warmth of the people in this historic town. The panoramic vistas of the town and the surrounding Outback are absolutely worth the stop. The friendly, welcoming locals in Broken Hill truly make a visit to their town memorable. They add a personal touch that elevates this attraction to a solid 5 stars in my book.

If you're traveling to or through Broken Hill, don't miss The Big Bench—it’s a blend of history and stunning scenery, in a town that shows Australian...

We came here as we are seeing the ‘Big things in Australia”. It is chained off, however everyone bypasses this to climb up and take a photo. There is also a mine to look at with machinery and a memorial wall. It was really windy. A nice view of the town of Broken Hill. There are toilets and a cafe, however both were closed the day we went. We were told that you could walk here from the visitors centre. Yes, you could walk here but I would not advise it. You can walk to the bottom of the hill, but it would be unsafe to walk up the hill, you would be literally walking on the road. We drove, if we didn’t have a car, I would not have attempted...

Another big thing that Australia has to offer. The Big Bench, this is located on the Line of Lode. It’s a shame you are not allowed to take a photo sitting on it due to the chain around it. You have some great views from this location.

For what it is, it is pretty awesome!

I was quite literally blown away. The Big Bench sits at the top of a hill and provides awesome views of Broken Hill, but boy was it WINDY! The miners memorial was interesting and it should be even better when the new visitor’s Center is completed. The only disappointment was that the bench is fenced off and you can no longer sit on it to get photos.
