I would not recommend living on UC campus to anyone. They claim to have under market house prices but expect you to pay ridiculous prices for depressing shoebox rooms, things are constantly breaking and can be left broken for months at a time unless you harass the front staff to fix them. They ask for money anything and everything. You accidentally lock yourself out…you need to pay for a new card and a lock out fee. Money in disguise of a “spirit” fee $100 and towards “free” meals that not everybody can have.
During covid in 2020 they offered to help students with food but you were required to pay $99+ on cheap inedible food. No rent assistance for those that needed it and continue to charge high amounts, the rooms aren’t even worth the money as there isn’t any air conditioning and so you’re barely in the rooms as you’re dying of heat exhaustion and need to seek air con somewhere else. As people who are students you’d think they would understand that not all of us are working and for those who are, they aren’t working enough hours to pay rent and save especially those living in a one bedroom. It’s appalling that UC promotes this money making scheme to new students. I was there for half a year before I decided to move out and find a place off campus. It’s much cheaper, less depressing and you don’t have to deal with rude admin.
I wasn’t going to post anything but my friends are going through similar if not worse as they don’t have parents that can financially support them and Centrelink isn’t a main source of income. Imagine being in debt at 19-20 because UC lodge are too greedy for...
Read moreI lived here for two years and can say with certainty that it'll be the worst place I'll have ever lived.
Poor management, huge lack in support from RAs and staff alike, no sense of community and extortionate prices for such a small space.
Low level of care for the well-being and safety of residents, which is displayed by the lack of fire drills and the frequent malfunction of fire alarms. I also experienced this lack of care when a fellow residents threatened myself and a few friends with a knife, and managements only concern was if we had told anyone outside of their company about it.
Rooms are constantly in need of repair and maintenance. (which is okay because one of the very few good things about UC lodge is the team doing maintenance). This is worrying considering how new the building is.
Very few unilodge events are run throughout the year, meaning there is little to no community life. Plus the events that are run pretty much rely on you wanting to drink.
If I could give zero...
Read moreTruly not a good place to live. Management was good until it changed in late 2017/early 2018. Serious complaints seem to be taken with a grain of salt if a certain few of the RA's are on. A blatant lack of respect for their residents from management with only a care for their back pockets. With the complaints that do get acknowledged, a minimal approach to the solution is taken and they only do what they need to based on the occupancy agreement and rarely take the moral approach instead of a legal approach.
I could honestly list all the faults with this place but we'd be here for days. And the other negative reviews already submitted seem to shine the light on the situation as it isn't just a one of case. But simply, poor management, ridiculous prices, lack of resources, no aircon....
