I've been a long time customer and visited the Westfield Belconnen many times over the past 25 years. The parking was free to public after 6:00pm. I am now told that the policy was changed sometimes last year and the benefit now available to Westfield plus members only. I was unaware of this new policy and as a result I overstayed by about 30mins and was charged $7.00. I called the parking staff via buzzer who advised me of this change of policy in relation to after 6pm free parking. I then joined the membership and informed the parking staff. However, I was still charged the late fee.
The parking staff informed me that the new policy is displayed at the entrance. C'mon, do you really expect the public to stop at the entrance gate every time to read the lengthy terms & conditions to become aware of the changes to parking policy! Is this practical or even acceptable to block the traffic to read all the fine print?
They also made me wait at the parking lot for a lengthy period for the security guard to arrive and my family was also in the car in the cold Canberra weather. Top notch customer service, isn't it!
How greedy & dubious is that! Very unethical business practice and appalling customer service. The staff insisted me on paying the late fee despite I told them that I had just joined the membership via their app. I am now having a second thought about associating myself with such business and considering relinquishing my Westfield plus membership.
Update 11/06/2021: Received a call from Westfield Customer experience who offered an apology for the incident. No compensation was provided except an offer to refund the $7 parking fee...

Read more"Belco Mall" as many of the locals call this place, is a great place to shop in Canberra. Stopped in recently to take respite from the Canberra cold and ended up here for hours. There's a huge range of stores from small specialty through to major department stores. With Myer, Kmart, Target, Aldi, Coles, Woolworths, Rebel, Best & Less, all under one roof and several hundred small stores, Hoyts, restaurants & cafes, its easy to see why I lost most of my day here wandering about. Looking about there's a wide variety of people shopping here, so it obviously meets the needs of the local area really well. There's food spread well throughout the centre, from small kiosks to cafes and restaurants, plus the usual food court style though at least it has some variety and not just all the big food chains. Parking is busy, but you'd expect that at a popular place like this. First two hours is free and its ticketless parking so makes entry and exit pretty easy. Had seen a few reviews on other sites where people complain about it being busy, but I guess if you always head for the most popular spaces then you can expect to wait! There's a system to point you toward the available bays so, follow that and it's easy (hint - rooftop whilst not covered is the easiest to find a...
