Dobinsons — Restaurant in District of Belconnen

I have loved the Dobinson's store in Civic for years, and was looking forward to them opening a store in Belconnen. Sadly, on a Sunday, they had one barista on, who seemed to be the only staff member with any kind of training, so was very distracted making coffees and was very slow. She also then burnt the coffees I was served. The pastries and pies all seemed to have burned bits on them, some with black edges. We ordered a salted caramel slice and vanilla slice. The caramel had been overcooked, and was bitter, the custard in the slice was grainy, like it had been made from a packet mix. These are slices I've ordered heaps of times before from both civic stores and never had a problem. It just felt like a shop run by apprentices, which is really depressing as I know how good Dobinson's can be. Maybe they sold this shop as a franchise and it's not the original owners? It's the only thing I can think of. Either that, or I got them on a really, really bad day. Not sure if I'll go back, and it's making me wary of going back to the civic one, it's a lot of money to spend not knowing if this lack of quality control is across all stores. You have to check your change as there are girls behind the counter that like to short change you a couple of dollars. I brought a plain pie & queich Lorraine that came to ($5.90 +$ 6.90) $12.80. I should have got $7.20 change. But no she short change me by $3 & the bloke said oh yes she does that all the time.. So how much do they really rip people off with money.. I did not fine this funny like everyone behind the counter Most shops would sack staff for that. But not this shop at Belconnen Mall.. They didn't even say anythink to her. So Count your Money before you leave or you will have just lost $3 or $4 dollars without knowing.. But you would think people working behind Counters are honest not this shop.. How much money do they make by doing this to people & get away with it.. I don't agree with the staff or boss laughing & think that its alright to short change you & say nothing to people.. Things are not cheap at that shop & to rip your money off you is not good service at all.. Turns you off buying from there when they do that. What are there standards or does the whole shop...

Dobinsons is always a favourite when we're in the mood for something sweet. We have tried a number of their big cakes as well as pretty much all their smaller ones as well as a number of the pies, sausage rolls and sandwiches.

Their shops also do a good coffee deal, two for $8 and you can get any size, any milk, which is great considering list other places charge me $6.5 for my usual coffee order.

There were some Dobinsons that were doing end of day sales but I haven't seen one of them so sales recently, not sure if that's still a thing but it was great being able to pick up 2-3 cakes or sandwiches for $5 a box!!
