I'm very sad to say that such a traditionally good and pioneering company has reduced their online payment options to four options, none of which is a direct bank payment like BSB and account. With 3 of the 4, they are demanding something they want to call a 'convenience fee' on top of the price of the tickets ! This fee is NOT listed on the options page The 4th payment method is called "account2account" and to use that method, (which is the only option that doesn't charge you there 'convenience fee'), you have to give them your bank login details including your bank login password ! ? ! W T F !
Sorry, but if Rottnest express is not going to offer an option to pay without either paying them for the privilege of paying them, or using a contractor that demands your bank login and password 🫣 then this is the end of my family's 15 years of patronage.
Thank you for your response, however it does not offer any solutions. As a simple example, your company refuses to offer the now, instant, Direct Bank to Bank payment (BSB & account number) which has No Cost, to the company nor the customer, and like most Australian companies are very happy to offer and accept.
Further, your response implies that the merchant's "compulsory surcharge" should be passed on to the customer ! In spite of the fact that it is the company, who has refused the instant bank transfer option, in favor of these, third party money traps (which the Australian government is now in the process of restricting due to their excessive fees and hidden costs to consumers). 'Merchant fees' including what you call 'convenience or transaction fees' are intended to be paid by the merchants as everybody is fully aware except for the impoverished companies that are so desperate to get as much profit as possible that in addition to increasing their prices they pass on their own business expenses to the customers. This is certainly not something I would have expected from such a great company as rottenest express and I am a bit disappointed that there has been no progress towards providing a simple costs savings option, which also benefits Rottenest Express.
I would have been happy to give you the honest five Star review that I would...

Departure options are convenient, with ferries leaving from two locations: Perth and Fremantle. This flexibility allows travelers to choose the most suitable starting point based on their location.
When it comes to ticket options, Rottnest Express offers three types: Single Ticket, Return Ticket, and Day Package. The pricing is clear and varied, catering to different needs: The Single Ticket from Rottnest to Fremantle for adults is AUD 39. The Single Ticket from Perth to Rottnest for adults is AUD 61.
Keep in mind that these prices do not include the Rottnest Admission Fee for adults, which is AUD 40, and there is a credit card surcharge of around AUD 5.
Additionally, there are several useful add-ons available. You can rent a bike, or if you bring your own, there is a small charge. There are also fantastic experiences such as the Discovery Bus Tour, which is a 90-minute guided tour with photo stops, and the Adventure Rottnest Thrill Ride, a 45-minute fast boat ride offering unique views of the rugged Rottnest coastline from the water. This includes return ferry transfers from Barrack Street, Perth.
These additional experiences can be chosen initially as part of a Day Package, or added on afterwards when selecting a One Way or Return ticket. It's highly convenient and allows for a tailored experience based on your interests.
If you opt for the Bus Discovery add-on, Rottnest Express will inform you of the bus departure location. It's worth noting that this specific location isn't yet listed on Google Maps, but it is not far from the main Google Maps point for...
Read moreLoved coming to Rottnest but just had a pretty disappointing experience which will stop me using Express. Whilst standing in line at B Shed a staff member told me that my carry on Beach Tent had to be stored in the cage as there was not enough space on board. Then I get on board and see two people carrying beach tents which was a bit annoying. I then get off the boat at Rottnest go to collect my property and its not there. I ask two staff members including the person who took it off me where it was and they couldn't find it. I asked if they had tagged it or if anyone was overseeing peoples property and they said.. "no we just drop it down here and people grab what belongs to them". The honesty system does not work. He then tried to call the office and couldn't get through. I said what's the process now and he didn't have an answer but took my phone number. I then tried to call the office and was on hold for 20 minutes before electing the call back option...that was 1.5 hrs go. I get there are some low life people out there who steal property, but Rottnest Express asked to look after my property and then did not return it back to me. I'll update or delete this should this be fixed, but so far I'm unimpressed.
Edit: they just called me back and then sighed and hung up on me after I finished telling my story.
Edit x2: On the 4:00 Ferry my grandmother who relies on a scooter was told that she had to walk up the stairs to disembark. Obviously for someone who has disabilities this proved a challenge. The crew were blasé and unhelpful. When booking the tickets a note was made about her disability. We would have appreciated some communication if this was going to be an issue. It appears communication and the Standard Operating Procedures are very poor or are just plainly not...
