Fremantle, with its charming vintage vibe, is a place that begs to be captured on Instagram. During my second visit to Kailis Fishmarket Cafe, I discovered some noteworthy aspects that are worth sharing.
First and foremost, making a reservation beforehand is advisable, as the lunchtime rush can be quite crowded. If you prefer a more relaxed dining experience, arriving after 2pm for a walk-in might be a better option.
To my surprise, even as someone who generally dislikes fresh oysters, I found the ones at Kailis Fishmarket Cafe to be exceptionally fresh. The initial taste was sweet, buttery, and reminiscent of the sea. However, the aftertaste had a slightly fishy quality to it, which might not be to everyone's liking.
The service provided by the staff was delightful and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. I particularly relished their grilled lobsters and prawns, which were flavorful and succulent. The grilled fish skewers also impressed with their tastiness and freshness.
On the other hand, I tried their salmon sashimi, and while it was fresh, it didn't quite meet the standards of traditional Japanese-style sashimi. The slicing technique fell short of the precision found in authentic Japanese preparations.
Not to be overlooked, their fish & chips were simply delicious, satisfying cravings for a classic seafood delight.
Without a doubt, Kailis Fishmarket Cafe has become my favorite dining spot in Fremantle. Their fresh seafood offerings, particularly the grilled lobsters, prawns, and fish skewers, left a lasting impression. Although the salmon sashimi didn't quite match Japanese standards, it was still enjoyable. Don't miss the chance to indulge in their delightful fish & chips.
Highly recommended for a memorable dining experience while exploring the vintage charm...
Read moreGood Friday was chaotic at Kailis fish market Fremantle! When we arrive for our booking we did begin to worry that the sheer volume of people would affect the quality of food served and the customer service. However, after booking a table earlier in the month and pre ordering the “Oh Holy Ship” seafood platter we hoped that our organisation would pay off.
And boy did it!
Customer service was outstanding, and considering the hundreds upon hundreds of other customers, the service was a sheer testament to the staff who went above and beyond to deliver. The staff were very attentive, regularly checking in with us, took photos for us and even allowed us to swap out some of the items on the platter for more kid friendly options.
Onto the food.
The quality of the seafood was incredible- this is not an overstatement, in all honesty the simplicity of this statement is true. All of the seafood was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Each dish was beautifully presented on the platter with its own unique space and flavours. The lobster mornay and bbq lobsters were tender succulent and delicious, the chilli mussels were stunning and served in a rich tomato broth with just the right amount of spice and the oysters were fresh, delicate and flavourful- and that’s just a few of the things we ate. The size of the “Oh Holy Ship” seafood platter is no joke- photos do not do it justice! It was always our intention to order more food to supplement enough for our table of 9 but we ended up with leftovers!
Thank you Kailis Fish Market for a delicious and memorable Good Friday experience! We will...
Read moreThe $19 seafood chowder in sourdough bowl was nice, lots of generous chunks of fish and 3 little mussels. No scallops or prawns like other seafood chowders, but they saturate the bread bowl lid in garlic butter. Would be better toasted! Seafood chowder is enough for two people if you're eating the bread too. The unnamed fish that came with the fish and chips was excellent, very fresh and tasted perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the chips weren't good, they tasted a little undercooked and similar texture to KFC fries but worse. The fish and chips came unseasoned, there's a DIY salting station where you pick up your order and you have your choice of chicken salt, chilli salt, etc. $3 sauce tubs, but you can ask for complimentary tomato sauce sachets at the register. Overall 3 stars as we enjoyed our meal, but probably won't be back as the food wasn't standout. No water for the tables, only bottled water. We also saw cockroaches on the floor by the tables, which was off-putting. Warning: Parking inspectors aggressively roam the tiny carpark outside, waiting for tickets to tick over - make sure you keep an eye on the time! Almost half of the cars there had been issued parking fines when we left after...
