Regrettably this was a below average theme park experience and is not setup well to cope with days of high demand. Essentially, it is a day of queues and impossible to plan.
pros: · Rides are good when you get on them. · Are plenty of food options. · Looks like there are a lot of options for younger kids that don't involve waiting excessive times. · Meal options were not too bad.
cons · App shows materially incorrect wait times making impossible to plan. i.e., the DC ride showed a 60-minute wait and claimed it was updated every few minutes. It actually 120+ min. · App is confusing - i.e. fast passes and single shots are not in the “store” section of the app rather are in a separate area called “shop” (blue section, accessed from home screen). · queues are long (i.e. between 10 am and 2 pm only did 2 rides). · The superman ride requires storing everything before entering queue. This means no water or anything for several hours. · queues get slower as more people use fast track passes to the point where waiting feels futile as so many fast passes that hardly moving main queue. · queue jumping is commonplace, and the design makes this easy. · Theming is poor, i.e. Superman ride has almost nothing other than a few small screens showing nothing interesting.
Suggestions if visiting on holidays · Come a bit early so get in at open & do one major ride (like Superman or DC) immediately. · In the first half of the day, significantly increase the wait times listed. · If want to do all the major rides, purchase a few one-shot passes (~$30 per person for major rides). Do this early as they sell out. These are likely a better option for most than the full fast track pass, as fast track only allows one ride, and some have short queues if you pick your time (also, buying separately is almost the same price as the full pass). · Toilets are to the right of entry (are not on the map).
Suggestions to park · Show toilet locations on the map. · Better track queue times on the app & err on the side of caution (being 60+ min out means impossible to plan rides to fit with shows/lunch etc…). · Install signage along the way of expected wait time from that point (especially the Superman ride where phones are banned). · Find a solution to the storage for Superman. Many kept their phones on them and openly used them (hid when went rode). · Show trivia, fun facts, jokes etc… on screens to make enjoyable. i.e. the superman ride “theming” is poor and having no access to anything (including water & toilets) for 2 hours+ is tedious. · Consider seating options. · Have roaming performers (like magicians) present to the queue on holiday periods. Could even have people come around selling items like snacks, drinks, (hire a small folding chair) etc… · On busy days, have more staff to turn around the rides faster. · Better/more appropriately “use” the single queue. i.e. at times 3 people were being taken from the single queue. · Show fast passes and one shot passes in the store (even if just as a link to the “shop” from the “store”). I only figured out after 4 hours that there was a second “shop” for these items (and were sold out by that stage). · have a system to allow bag drop at the ride for superman. could “simply” be a shelf that rolls from one side to the other. · Consider changing the model entirely during peak periods. i.e., with the various passes, the main queue deteriorates into just damaging reputation/experience - but these commercial options also sell out. i.e. say, $20 to ride & app queue for you for 1 at a time. Entry ticket could include one free if nominated within first 2 hours. · Ultimately, there are only so many ride seats available per day, so helping customers access these in a way that avoids spending 4.5 hours in queues in exchange for 3 or 4 rides is in everyone’s interest. Customers watching a show/buying food/drink etc… while they “queue” is better for the park and the visitor. Offer information and tips on the app for different types...
Read moreMovie world is a 50-50. Sometimes it is the best park in Australia while other times it is a disappointment with a severe lack of shade in ride cues, overpriced and bland food and constant maintenance and shutdowns on rides with long wait times. I don’t envy anyone who works at a theme park, I bet they go through a lot of bad experiences with nasty customers. So I’ll direct my comments to the upper management and bigwigs. Most of the rides and rollercoasters are pretty fantastic. The Hypercoaster, Superman and scooby (when they’re running), green lantern and the Wild West falls too and even the batwing and justice league are alright.
Our thoughts on the newest additions: The new flash ride is a big mess, too few riders on each ride, nowhere near enough shade while waiting, the ride takes ages to get everyone on and is way too short. Still though, it’s better than the doomsday. The new Wizard of Oz 4D movie is pretty crap and so much worse than all of the previous experiences in the theatre. It’s just a poorly cut down version of the classic film with a very small amount of action in the chairs or effects with the 3d glasses. The fact that it’s a film from 1939 means that the sound and picture quality is severely lacking too, so that makes it a tough watch/listen. We really enjoyed going through the Batman exhibit when they had it and people who like film history or don’t want to go on many rides it was a big addition to the park, so if I was in charge I’d bring a new exhibit experience soon to use that space well. Alright, let’s get into the wizard of oz precinct. The entry is pretty solid and the emerald palace is pretty nice but a much smaller space that we expected. A major issue is the lack of seating in the entire indoor facility and outdoor area. Also the signage is a bit poor so we had to wander around aimlessly trying to find the rides from the courtyard. The Kansas twister is very well themed in the queuing area and the ride itself is well themed. It’s a good family coaster that has great capacity so wait times are good. Only major criticism is that, similar to almost all other rides at the park, it’s too short of a ride. The flight of the wicked witch has an amazing indoor themed queue process too, once you get outside though the shading is pretty terrible and nonexistent for most of the line. This coaster also only has one car which means that it takes ages to get on the damn ride. The ride itself is a pretty standard coaster with a great first drop (only if you’re at the back of the train). Most of the rest of the ride is a bit mid and also too short. Having a second train would’ve been a very smart move but as a lot of people know, this precinct was rushed open to complete with Dreamworld’s new precinct, so lots of corners were obviously cut for the whole area. If you were ever lucky enough to go on the lethal weapon/Arkham asylum, it’s like a very tame version of that absolute banger of a coaster. They could definitely do more with the courtyard and the indoor main area in the emerald palace too. Hopefully more updates and upgrades soon. Fingers crossed that Scooby Doo’s big reno is done soon and done well! Lots to like but also lots to dislike too. Hopefully this review helps the park improve in certain areas and the consumers understand the current...
