I wasn't expecting much from a botanical garden in the middle of a bustling city, but Fitzroy Gardens truly surprised me. Stepping through the gates felt like entering another world. The towering old trees formed a cool, green canopy, muffling the city sounds and creating a sense of peaceful seclusion.
I wandered along winding paths, past colorful flower beds and manicured lawns. Each turn revealed something new: the charming miniature Tudor village, the whimsical "Fairies Tree" adorned with tiny carved figures, the grand conservatory overflowing with exotic plants. It felt like a delightful treasure hunt, with each discovery sparking a smile.
But beyond the visual treats, what truly resonated with me was the atmosphere. The gardens were filled with locals – families picnicking under the shade, couples strolling hand-in-hand, groups of friends laughing on benches. It was a vibrant space that pulsed with life, a testament to the garden's role as a community hub.
I spent hours getting lost in the maze of paths, and by the time I emerged, I felt rejuvenated and reconnected with nature. Fitzroy Gardens isn't just a beautiful garden; it's a haven, a place to escape the city's hustle and bustle and find peace amidst the greenery. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne, whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a...
Read moreIt’s an unusual shape garden, like a large sideways arrow head, with a gentle slope in parts. Not great for ball games. There’s another park just up the road that’s far better for that, and it has toilets, better play equipment and a great big old fashioned slide. Fitzroy Gardens has relatively quiet roads either side in parts, without fencing thus young kids need to be watched. Easy parking alongside the park most times. A small, simple, fenced children’s playground. Good clean toilets on site. A few areas one can sit quietly amongst lovely landscaping and plants. A major road, the Southern Outlet, is nearby and traffic can be heard often. It’s a gentle walk around and in the gardens. The dog enjoys walking in there and is allowed off lead at designated times per Hobart City...
Read moreFitzroy Gardens is one of the hidden gems of Hobart. Its not on the tourist route and if you don't know what you are looking for then you wont even know that its there. As you flick of Davey St onto the Southern Outlet you might catch a glimpse of it out of your left eye but that might be dangerous. Better to park in Fitzroy St and enjoy it at your leisure. It is a beautiful park in a very historic part of the city. The houses are beautiful and well maintained. You could easily bring some lunch and enjoy it under one of the hundreds of trees. But be aware, if the sun isn't out it will be cold, because of its aspect. Hobart City Council does a great job of maintaining it and well done to the parks crew. If your looking for something to do check out...
