Very poor meal, ordered the Munich platter for two as wanted a full selection. I have been here when first opened years ago and was good, now do not recommend and would not go back based on this experience. It is run like a bad franchise as based on food I wonder if there are chefs or professional kitchen staff or just casuals using deep fryers and precooked knuckles in ovens that get over cooked.
It was a Monday night so not sure if we got weekend leftovers but the schnitzels were dry and had 1-2mm of pressed (hard) chicken with 3-4mm of pressed crumb batter on each side, obviously a manufactured schnitzel and unappealing, nothing anything like photos. If want a chicken schnitzel go to a Melbourne pub, also traditional is to have beef/veal schnitzel on such platters which was what I was looking forward to. We also only got end piece of lemon (rind no actual lemon to juice) , enough for 3 drops max and not 2 x 1/4's needed for two people. How hard is to get a couple of usable pieces of lemon right!
The pork knuckle is supposed to be the centre piece, it was dry, not juicy and very poor crackling, just a hard skin. Not much mash, just a little cold bed under knuckle. Sausages were not nice tasty big german sausage but miniature. Red slaw and sauerkraut sides came out later and were dry and definitely not fresh pretty much inedible. Looked forward to nice German style beer stein but was room temp and no head at all, not a nice frothy top. After a few mouthfuls was warm.
Wait staff asked if wanted more drinks on a couple occasions but never asked how meal was which was poorest quality I have had in a long time. I took a USA friend there for a casual business dinner as was staying in Docklands. I was embarrassed, when paying he pushed 15% tip (highest option) which waiter eyes lit up and couldn't stop him paying this as in US pretty much mandatory to tip at least 20%. I said I would have pushed 0-5% as in Australia tipping is based on quality of food and service, 15% would have been good if a quality enjoyable meal with good service. I didn't wish to create a big deal with OS guest there but if I was there without guest I would not paid.
Food was a ZERO and service a 2 out of 5. But overall I would give ZERO as we both were put off persisting on the meal when we saw mice running across the floor in the bar, so we both looked at each other and had thoughts as to where else they would be. So do not recommend, on the other side of the Yarra in docklands there is a good German style beer hall and also in the city. Melbourne has no shortage of great places further up South Bank, Docklands and in CBD but sadly this place food quality and service has dived...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely fantastic experience at Munich Brauhaus! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a lively, authentic German atmosphere that immediately set the tone for a great evening. The decor was charming and true to its roots, creating a cozy and festive vibe that felt both modern and traditional. The food is exceptional ā from the hearty, freshly baked pretzels to the perfectly crispy and tender schnitzels, every dish was a true delight. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and the portion sizes were generous.
The beer selection is nothing short of impressive. With a wide variety of local and international brews, there's something for every palate, whether you're a lager lover or a fan of craft ales. I had the pleasure of sampling a few, and they were all served at the ideal temperature ā truly refreshing!
What really stood out was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful recommendations and making us feel right at home. Their attention to detail made the experience even more enjoyable.
To top it off, the live music was fantastic and really brought the place to life. It added an extra layer of energy to the already vibrant atmosphere, making it feel like a true celebration.
If you're in Melbourne and looking for a place to enjoy great food, delicious drinks, and a fun, welcoming environment, I highly recommend Munich Brauhaus. Whether for a casual dinner or a special night out, this place wonāt disappoint. Iām already planning my next visit this Friday and canāt wait to experience it...

REVIEW: Came during the lunch time rush on the weekday. Our biggest regret is not pre-ordering, as there were BIG tables coming through with their food sorted. Would recommend you look into this, if you're sensitive to time!
The pork schnitzel was beaten thinly (as it should be) but it should be tender. For me, it may have been left too long in the fryer when it erred on the side of dry. Didn't like the mushroom sauce. It was too watery, when traditional Bavarian recipes incorporate more flour to make the gravy thicker. Mash was nice and soft, but definitely could've benefitted from a bit more salt.
What was the worst was when we were charged a "service fee" on our bill, $6.70, without any explanation. Firstly, we were a table of 5 (small, compared to other tables streaming through), and secondly it was charged without explanation. There was barely any service that was above and beyond the usual. All Munich Brauhaus did was: show us to our seats, take our order and then mentioning the lunch special (although HALFWAY through when half the table had already ordered), bringing our food, pulling up the bill then bringing over the eftpos machine. This is all standard and expected. Nothing that would warrant a "service fee".
My manager is shocked and will not be coming back. A shame, when Munich Brauhaus almost convinced him to be a loyal customer with the...
