I've been studying at this campus for over a year, got my certificate 2 in animal studies and currently doing my certificate 3 in animal care services. I've learnt a lot my lecturers are all very nice and respectful the only issue I have had is some lecturers not replying to emails quick enough about course work not being uploaded to blackboard but replying to emails about me not being in class. I've had reasonable adjustments made and support from student services as I have ADHD. Although I struggle to talk to other students as I have social anxiety my lecturers always make me feel welcomed and give me the opportunity to participate as any other student. I am 17 and have never felt more respected and treated as an adult compared to highschool. I also did some of the pet grooming skill set and struggled to pass but had great support form my lecturer who was super nice and likes to put students onto the the task to learn. I like that we do cahoots to help encourage learning and the overall environment has been fantastic. I don't drive yet so I haven't had many issues with parking but public transport can be a pain at times.
I'd 100% recommend this campus to students who want to study animal care but Murdoch was originally dog oriented and are slowly taking in more small animals such as Guinea pigs, rats, fish, worms and now a blue tongue! If you want a better variety of animals then definitely apply to Bentley but apply for both as it's very competitive and Murdoch has less points so it's easier to get in! I'd recommend doing both certificate 2 and 3 to get into cert 4 vet nursing at Bentley.
Tafe assessments usually get 2 attempts as the course level gets higher but makes the pressure of being correct on the first try a lot less compared to school tests where it was once and then final grade. Makes learning easier and more comfortable woth the flexibility to not be massively under pressure.
Phones are aloud including phone calls where u need to leave class to answer. Obviously we have to listen and do work so phones can't be used for the wrong thing but no super strict rules like high school. We are aloud to say we are going to the toilet and not rlly have to ask as well which makes it so much better.
100% love the lecturers James, Gemma, Rachel, Kirsty, Shai-Marie,...
Read moreUnprofessional, poor effort and terrible first impression with no consideration to your circumstances. This TAFE offers online courses however only to students within the metro area. For anyone in regional areas down south or further east such as Bunbury or Busselton who are unable to move into the metro area or don't have the courses offered at their local institution are unable to apply.
The communication from the 'Portfolio manager' is short, unclear and unprofessional from what is meant to be from a training organisation and a professional in a managing role. I never received an indication why I couldn't apply or why it was strictly a METRO ONLY course as this isn't a requirement nor was it described on their website.
I intended to pay in full without concession for the course and even though this being a 'ONLINE' course I made clear I was happy to travel to the campus for inductions or to show competency when required however none of this was even a point of interest nor considered.
If this is the standard encouraged by this TAFE and if you're intending to apply from outside of the metro area I unfortunately wouldn't waste your time and look elsewhere, if they can't consider a full paying customer willing to travel and meet all standards and requirements before paying for the course what else are they not going to consider when it comes to your education after you've paid...
Read moreYou're just a number here, no personalised assistance or extra help with study. In my experience, I felt like I had to learn a lot myself through the computer and just 'get it'. Computer 'glitch' sent out many emails to students saying they owed money. I owed nothing and had this confirmed with TAFE staff several times. They then proceeded to threaten me with a debt collector. This was very upsetting as I have never been late to a bill in my life let alone have a debt collector. I had to then provide evidence to them that MULTIPLE other TAFE staff had already assured me I owed $0. You would think that the departments at the SAME campus would be aware of who did or did not owe money. Also, good luck if you drive a car (costs $$ to park, you have to get to TAFE 1-2 hours early just to get a park) because this campus does not support car drivers. Makes it very hard. Not everyone wants to or can use public transport. I definitely suggest you find study options elsewhere. However, beautiful...
