Meerea Park is, in my opinion, the best winery in the Hunter Valley. The quality is outstanding and the prices of their wines are extremely reasonable. The Hell Hole Shiraz and the Terracota Shiraz are classic Hunter Rhone styles. The Alexander Munro Shiraz is a world class single vineyard Shiraz, the equal of any other great Australian Shiraz and at one third of the price of other top Hunter shirazes. The Alexander Munro Chardonnay is ridiculously cheap for the quality. The owner, Garth, is always on hand at the cellar door and is a wealth of information about Hunter wine. Do yourself a favour - go there on your next Hunter trip. You won’t regret it. I’ve been a wine club member for about 5 years and I’m never ever disappointed...
Read moreWe'd just gone by Tempus Two but they were too busy so we walked past to Meerea wines and what a happy discovery! We had a lovely laid-back tasting with great chat from Garth who managed to persuade my partner into trying the XYZ Chardonnay which he enjoyed (not normally an Australian Chardonnay drinker). Would have loved to have bought the 'Black' Shiraz but at $300/bottle we were more than happy enough with the Terracotta Syrah. Their wines are definitely comparable to Brokenwood's if you're also a fan of theirs.
Side-note: the 'rude guy' mentioned in a couple of other reviews no longer works there. We also didn't feel Tempus Two was really worth the visit when we'd gone back...

Looked after by Garth throughout. When I mentioned I wasn't a fan of Australian chardonnays, he took that as a challenge and got me to try 2 that I otherwise wouldn't have touched (I bought the XYZ)
Things warmed up a bit more, tried a fantastic pinot noir (also bought) and a bunch of other reds.
Almost last I got to try the Black Shiraz (as it was my birthday). What a treat. Ended up buying another red .
All in all, great service and some of the better wines I've tried in the Hunter. Looking forward to...
