Great location & overall good set up and rooftop views. I organised a function with Websters for our work Christmas Party and they were very helpful and organised leading up to the evening. We arrived at 5:30pm and asked for catering to start coming out at 6pm. When 6:30pm came then 7pm and still no food. The manager on duty was very helpful by investigating what was going on in the kitchen. Turns out there was a double up in the order, our booking was under Olivia and the other booking was under Oliver. I understand that mistakes can happen but considering I organised this event well in advance and even followed up the week of the event and the day of the event too, this was extremely frustrating for us. The catering finally arrived just after 8pm but by this time some of our staff left because they were hungry and couldn’t wait any longer and as we were drinking on empty stomachs, we were either feeling unwell or slightly tipsy being nearly 3 hours of drinking without food (not by our choice) it then became an RSA issue. Again the bar manager was apologetic and gave us complimentary pizza, hot chips and a couple of bottles of champagne. As the night continued it was then 10pm and the bartenders advised we were going to be asked to leave soon and cut off from the bar so we paid the bill and immediately left. Quite frankly we were angry at this request considering there was various groups around us that had clearly been there since early hours of the afternoon on a pub crawl dressed in costumes who were extremely rowdy, rude, stealing our catering and even insulted some of the female members in our group about their weight and their looks. Their abhorrent behaviour was ignored by security. I did make multiple complaints about them displaying unacceptable public behaviour and instead of taking my feedback on board they simple ignored it and notified the bartenders and pretty much asked us to leave…quite poor. Whether this was done because it was a large group of men possibly spending more money or friends with the staff…who knows. Overall, this did leave a damper on the evening and personally I wouldn’t recommend hosting your event at Websters. I would definitely be a returning customer but not anytime soon and only for food and some drinks, never an event. Extremely disappointed and sub standard...
Read moreI’ve been to Websters many times and have had heaps of great experiences there in the past, hence the 2 stars. However, a few weeks back I went there with my brother and friends (all of us early 20’s) and it’d been months since we’d all caught up together. But before we could go inside, I was singled out and denied by what I can only describe as the worst bouncer I have ever encountered. Not only did he deny me when I hadn’t had anything to drink for 2 hours (for medical reasons), but refused to provide any other reason for doing so, which last I checked as someone who works in RSA hospitality you have to do. Instead he just kept shaking his head and pointing at me when I kindly asked him to explain why he was adamant on letting in my other (semi tipsy) friends but not me. Then I said I’m not gonna get in an argument with him and decided to be the bigger person and started walking away with my mates. Then, here’s the kicker, as I’m walking away (admittedly quite disappointed) he legit threatened me and calls out ‘Oi don’t start something you can’t finish champ!’ I turned around and asked him what exactly he meant by what he just said and was about to remind him that can’t threaten patrons (especially after the way he’d already treated me). But before I could say anything substantial he pulled out his phone to photograph and presumably blacklist me, as if I’M the one who’s acted inappropriately and unacceptably!! Even writing this was very unpleasant for me but on the advice of my mates and even other people I know who’ve worked security at pubs, I thought it would be worth hopefully making this bouncer’s action known to higher-ups or at the very least other customers. It’s unfortunate tho because based on other reviews I’ve read and off word of mouth, this seems to be a problem here, especially amongst groups of mates just looking for a good time. Makes me wonder if this same bouncer is behind these reviews too. Sadly I didn’t get this vile individual’s name but I don’t think someone like him should be working at a beloved venue...
Read moreGreat refurb ruined by ignorant staff.
Was walking past this bar on the Saturday it got to 27C while it was still in winter so decided to head straight up to the roof top bar. We were immediately impressed by the recent refurb which has brought a more stripped back cohesive look to the whole venue.
Had a cider with my mate and was having such a good time that when we decided to have another we thought we might have a late lunch there. The barman we enquired from told us abruptly that if we wanted to eat before 5pm we’ve have to sit at a tiny, single table undercover at the back of the bar like criminals as opposed to the main part of the open air bar where everybody else was. He also had a long whinge that undercover police had been in last weekend fining people who were breaking the recent anti-smoking laws. We told him that we actually agreed with laws and didn’t want to support a venue that was actively trying to circumvent them. Surely he knows that venues make more mark-up from food than alcohol.
Shortly after the same socially retarded staff member plonked a reserved sign on a table where 4 lovely Irish girls had been sitting for about an hour, implying that they had to move in 20 mins. Thank God they questioned it and gave him a hard time. How about you look after your current customers before thinking of reserving another table for Chelsea x 20 or Charlotte x 12.
Don’t know if it was just this particular day but the pub continued to fill up with more and more screechy, plastic, eastern suburbs princesses and their entourages' who were hideously overdressed in evening wear at 2:30pm in the afternoon – very un-Newtown. What about putting a limit on the number of tables you reserve so that you have more diversity in your clientele and not what just amounts to a crowd of female...
