Pros 1. Perfect point break waves guaranteed. This is invaluable when its flat, poor conditions or crowded at beaches. Book your session and turn up. No driving around looking for something rideable. 2. Fun with mates, meeting like minded surfers, awesome and supportive urbnsurf crew 3. Your sessions are video recorded for $25 you can analyse your session and improve your surfing Cautions 1. You may have to book a few days in advanced as sessions can book out. Think summer, school holidays or weekends. 2. If you pick a session more advanced than your ability to take off and pop up quickly because its too steep or too fast, it will cost you in board repairs from your board whipping the bare concrete wall. Listen to urbnsurf crew, you might need to move away from the wall on an angle. Or you miss catching the wave which costs around $10 each time and you go to the end of the line 3. Sometimes surfers are on top of each other in the queue and when water is moving you hit each other or surfers accidently paddle past you in the queue to talk to a mate. Other notes 1. Free 2 hour parking but you need to feed your parking ticket into a machine sitting at the customer service desk to validate your ticket for free parking. If you need more time drive out and back in again and validate the new parking tickt for another 2 hours. 2. Don't forget your wax, wax comb, duct tape in case your board gets damaged during a session you can quickly seal, keep surfing so you don't waste your session. Keep a second board in the car if you have one. 3. Give yourself plenty of time to get to urbnsurf Sydney because traffic can be hektic if there are other big shows happening around the time of your session at Olympic Park or just peak hour congestion. There is sometimes police breath testing pulling over lots of cars too. Other delays such as signing waviers or you you have issues with your tag and now you're waiting in line for urbnsurf crew help. Factor these unexpected delays in if you don't want to miss part of your session. 4. Urbn surf crew tell you when its your last wave and to go in if you don't want to do the paddle of shame 5. If you are a beach surfer, it can can be a learning curve to surf the wave pool as its closer to a point break where all the power of the wave is in the troff and pocket of the wave. If you surf horizontally and end up on the shoulder too far from the pocket you will struggle. Its not like an ocean beach break where you might race closeouts to quickly hit sections. It took me 6 sessions to start to work out how to surf this wave (advanced turns) and I work out one trick each session. I feel like I maybe know 10% of the tricks to surf the session. Don't feel discouraged if you rip at the beach and can't find your rhythm in the pool. Know there are tricks to it, enjoy the session anyway. 6. Don't let the pressure of other surfers in the lineup watching, spectators on the side line and cameras watching you put you off. There can be learners and pro surfers in your session. The vibe is excitement and inspiration and fellow surfers seem like nice people happy to share tips. I had one experienced surfer in my session help push a beginner into a wave before catching his wave. Amazing seeing strong surfers help others enjoy their session. 7. To save money on sessions consider a 3 or 5 session multipack. You can save $15 per session. 8. You will get 10 to 13 waves in a full session with 18 surfers. Hopefully one of those waves end up being a screamer. I fell on a lot of my waves trying to work out how to surf the wave, one or two good waves is normal for me. 9. Spectators $10 each. I didn't like this idea but there may be a reason for it.

EDIT: 15 April. Finally got a refund and a voucher for a session - so thanks to URBNSURF for looking into this. Not sure I’ll go again, but at least the effort has been made. Original review: Dangerous. The people there are great but they could really work on safety and response to incidents. I've surfed URBNSURF Melbourne before (was fine) and the wave technology is good, but their customer service does not demonstrate 'safety is their primary concern'. Incorrect settings were put in for the cruiser session and took out a whole bunch of people on the first set of waves (and again on the last!). You can't do anything about it - you can't see where the first wave breaks as it is a wave pool so you sit for the take-off based on the marks on the wall based on the session you booked and paid for in advance. And if you're too far in because they put incorrect settings than you will be taken out. There were a few on 9ft foamies or longboards - I can't imagine how that felt when they were expecting cruiser waves!! One guy tweaked his back and neck, my 6'4 McTavish Sumo got a crack on the rail. They offered 50% off but I simply requested a full refund (the cost of the session would not even cover the damage to my board...) I simply want my money back as the product was not delivered and it was dangerous. I don't want to go back. It's been three months and they are still "looking into it" - this is a safety incident after all! Full Story: I'm an intermediate surfer - going about three times a week to Sydney's local beaches and surf a range of conditions on a shortboard, foamie or mid length. We booked the cruiser session for New Year's Day as a few friends wanted cruisy waves. No problem, I bring a midlength for these waves. They told us to line up inside where the cruiser take-off is (I was #2) but when it started it was on advanced settings. The first five or so people (me included) wiped out as you were obviously sitting way too far inside for the wave. I could see that we were sitting too far in after the first person got smashed but couldn't paddle further back fast enough as the water sucks out for the next wave. THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING! Fine - they went back to change it to cruiser - that took 15 minutes of just sitting and waiting out there. Ended up with about 7 waves in 40 minutes or about $15 a wave. It came to the last set which they called out. I was second in line and the sets are closer now. Suddenly it goes back to advanced turns with no warning - again, way too far in. As it is the second half of the session, the waves are much closer now so collisions occurred and my McTavish now has a huge crack (whether it be from #3 wiping out into it or #1 being hit on the head or it going into the concrete wall, noone will know - I was just trying to protect my head and not drown). Correspondence from URBNSURF: 1 Jan 2025: After the session, told them in person that what happened was extremely dangerous. A few people filed injury/incident reports. They said they would offer 50% a future session but I said I want a refund as my wife and I don't want to come back. I don't expect them to pay for the damage on my board even though it was clearly a result of incorrect settings. 6 Jan 2025: Email follow up from me for refund, no reply. 30 Jan 2025: Email follow up from me for refund 06 Feb 2025: They reply finally - said they're looking into it Today: 03 Mar 2025: Still no reply. Also FYI apparently the Guest Services email is not monitored? Video of a regular, as advertised wave as well. EDIT: 15 April - received an email response and notified refund and a session voucher on its way, so it’s good that the URBNSRF team finally dealt to this.

Super grateful for the 30-day unlimited pass – it really helped me learn surfing step by step! One thing I’d suggest is a coach rating system, as different coaches have different styles. Also, some seemed more focused on free surf time than providing quality instruction. Additionally, it would be great if coach names were listed alongside their classes. It was a bit confusing to have different instructors for every Beginner class, even when I booked the same time every week. Even more confusing was that the Progressive class only seemed to have one coach—Ben. I’m sure there are other capable and less biased instructors out there. A big shoutout to Oliver and Jeanie/Jennie (sorry if I misspelled the name!)—you guys made my classes both helpful and fun. Thank you so much for your amazing teaching!
