Awful experience. Booked a table for my partners birthday. Arrived and table wasn’t ready, which was okay. Waited at the bar for 30 minutes and watched as the manager seated someone else at our table which had my name on it. Asked three times about our table as five-seven other couples were sat ahead of us. I felt very sorry for the host, who was trying to get us a table by the window which was where our original table was (I would have preferred to just sit anywhere, a window seat didn’t matter to us).
Food was okay, but was definitely not worth the value completely overpriced for what it was. Service was appalling. Waited fifteen minutes for still water, the waiter appeared as shocked as we were frustrated.
Atmosphere was awful, there was a group standing at the bar beside us who were getting drunker by the minute. It was particularly annoying when they started to look at us and laugh. I returned from the restroom to one of the group sitting against the back of my chair as my partner ate. It was frustrating no one asked them to move over towards the bar. We finished the meal with them practically sitting on top of our table. I could see other guests eating watching us with pity and clearly frustrated by the group too.
We asked for the bill as soon as our plates were taken - wanted to go back to the hotel bar. We waited a further twenty minutes and there was still no sign of our waiter returning. We approached the bar and waited there for 10 minutes to pay and no one acknowledged us. Our waiter then noticed us and offered to take us to the till. Our waiter was friendly but clearly over worked. When he asked about how our evening was we were honest because we were completely deflated and I was so disappointed I booked such a shocking restaurant and bar for my partners birthday which we were hoping to spend money on and have a special experience. First time I have had to complain in restaurant.
The waiter spoke to the manager who advised they would not charge us for my two gins (but they did charge for the tonic water which went with it). We didn’t really care about having to pay but I thought that was miserable to be honest to still charge for the mixer. We also paid for my partners whisky.
When we collected our jackets the host also asked about our evening. I felt sorry for them, as it appears they felt guilty for our ruined evening but it absolutely wasn’t their fault.
Overall, I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone it was probably the worst dining experience I have had. The bar also did not seem enjoyable and was too cramped with the dining tables around it. There were other restaurants and cocktail bars we visited which were well worth their value and were...
Read moreMy experience at this restaurant was unfortunately marred by an unpleasant encounter with the manager. Upon arriving with only two out of our party of five due to unforeseen incidents, the manager informed us of a policy that charged 30€ per person for incomplete parties and for perceived insufficient consumption. While I acknowledged the policy, the manager's communication was abrupt and lacking in understanding.
I suggested moving to a smaller table given the circumstances, but the manager rejected the idea and openly questioned our decision-making. Despite our attempts to accommodate the situation, his refusal and judgmental comments made the atmosphere uncomfortable. This initial awkwardness persisted throughout the evening. When one more of our friends arrived and ordered, the manager continued to remind us insistently to vacate our table after two hours, an unnecessary and disconcerting practice. When I calmly expressed our dissatisfaction, the manager became agitated, making the situation even more uncomfortable. His response escalated into an unpleasant confrontation.
The culmination of this unprofessionalism prompted us to cut our evening short and leave the restaurant. It's unfortunate that such a negative encounter overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. I hope the management addresses these communication issues to ensure a more pleasant atmosphere for...
Read moreRating this low as was not happy with the way I was greeted during entry today. I am solo travelling in Vienna and I decided this restaurant would be good for brunch however I felt judged by not only the front of house but also the other customers. Yes it is a fancy restaurant however there are no requirements on what to wear. I wore some jeans and a t-shirt, which looked nice and presentable and it didn’t seem inappropriate however the staff and guests thought different. When I arrived the front of house approached me as asked if I needed something, he didn’t stand behind the counter like he had with other guests, he approached me as if to tell me I was in the wrong place and I told him I had a reservation. He looked shocked at that, It seemed like he was judging me and my wealth based on what I am wearing. He was convinced my name wasn’t on the reservation list but I told him to check again and he found it. Again shocked. The guests were watching me as well and chez bernard is no Ritz so I don’t see the issue. However, the waiter I had was lovely and deserved the tip (I hope only he received). The food looked lovely but tasted disgusting. The cheese sauce was too powerful and made the eggs taste sickly and the matcha drink tasted like cardboard. It’s such a shame that in 2024 there are idiots still judging people’s wealth based on...
