AmmutsØn Craft Beer Dive — Restaurant in Vienna

Reasonably decent beer and atmosphere was ok, completely ruined when it came to pay when 10% was added to the card payment without my consent for having a non Euro card (known as DCC). Might not seem like much but if everywhere did this it would add up. I have not ever experienced this in developed countries before, and has tainted my view of Vienna which I thought was an honest and welcoming city. I know the owners response will be it’s due to bank fees… but they are part of doing business - you only have to lose 5.6% of customers at your quoted fees for them to be worth the investment, but he can’t see through this! If I’d known beforehand I would be ripped off I would have gone elsewhere and he wouldn’t have had my business. He will instead have a chargeback coming his way which will cost him more time and money for which he has no defence - it’s basically fraud. Turns out after talking to a semi-regular who goes to try the occasional new beer, that the owner is very short sighted and not a very nice man, and the bar staff are told lies about the card fees (can’t repeat what he actually said on here) best avoided as there are plenty of other choices...

We tried visiting Ammutsøn during a trip to Vienna only to be turned away at the door because of a private event. We had checked the website and all available social media before making the trek over and nothing was posted anywhere about being closed. It’s extremely disrespectful to customers who are going out of their way to come visit your bar to just close to the public without posting that anywhere. The person at the door told us “you’ll have to come back tomorrow” and we certainly won’t be doing that. You’ve wasted well over an hour of our time? I won’t go out of my way again to give you my money. Try managing your website & social media better.

Update based on the business response: someone at the door tonight literally told us the bar was closed for a private party and we would have to come back tomorrow. If that was an employee they must have been misinformed; if that was another guest from the private group you hosted they cost your business additional money by turning people away. The menu changes regularly so you'll always find something new to try. And you really can try: they let you have a sample of the beer on request so you don't waste your time on something you won't like.
