Embassy of the People's Republic of China — Attraction in Dhaka Metropolitan

This embassy is not familiar with non-Bangladeshi applicants. We were Canadians staying in Dhaka and the requirements (in terms of documentation) is different for Canadians versus Bangladeshis. Unfortunately, it is more difficult for Bangladeshis to obtain a visa. For Canadians (and other privileged passports) getting a visa should be quite easy. The Bangladeshi staff at the counter were very rude to us and demanded documentation that we knew we didn't need to provide (for example: proof of our flight to and from... we were going to cross at the land border with Vietnam so this was also impossible to provide). We argued a bit and made a fuss. Eventually, we spoke with a Chinese official who at least tried to understand what we were saying. He took our papers reluctantly, but our visa was issued without any problems. The cost was quite expensive BDT 7,800 for a simple tourist visa (for a Canadian). The embassy also does NOT accept credit cards. Given the high cost of the visa, this seems a bit ridiculous. We had to leave and come back with cash because we didn't have enough on hand. I went in to submit my passport for a student visa and the process was fast and seamless.

The Embassy has updated their procedures as of June 2023, and are better able to manage the queue of applicants registered to do submissions on a given day.

Once I was done with my online application submission and video interview, I was asked to schedule a time to submit my passport at the Embassy through the COVA website. On the day of, I waited outside in a queue for a short while and an officer of the Embassy was facilitating the flow of applicants through the door. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes once the Embassy opened for operations and have been asked to pick up my passport after 4 business days.

Firstly I need to apologize for not giving any pictures in this. I tried to take pictures but for security reasons I couldn't. By the way, recently on the 17th of August I visited the china embassy and I have to share with you that, come on is this really an embassy. Really bro. Other embassies look so beautiful and huge. But the china embassy looks so small and not like an embassy.

Now the useful parts begins. I liked about this embassy because it has a good waiting seat. Although it was outside, at least it had a fan in the ceiling. Which was really helpful for us.
