he most popular beach on the island and for good reason.
The pier gives it character, but the mountains wrap around it, mostly protect it from monster swells and some of the elements, it's a large beach. Water is clear, but I could really only imagine if it had less traffic. Lets face it tourists are much more messy than surfers.
There are plenty of small waves, but still spots and possibility for large, more dangerous waves. It's popular so you'll rarely be alone here, lifeguards and bathrooms. Shopping, etc. Great place to learn how to surf or paddle board. It's the place locals recommend to keep tourists from invading other beaches.
The angle which the beach faces and the cove/bay like shape along with the pier means you can get some amazing sunset and panorama shots. Wish IG was around back when I travelled more.
It's a safe and friendly place for all to come enjoy. A big island feel with all the wild...
Read moreMy favorite beach in Kuaui, which is saying a lot because all of them are incredible. Hanalei Bay sets itself aside, though, because it offers a little bit of everything. The sand is fine but there’s also the opportunity to hunt for shells. There’s a public restroom and a small park nearby to play games in. The bay itself if gorgeous and the surroundings are picturesque, but there’s an area of development nearby (but not too close to disrupt the beach experience) where you can shop or grab something to eat. The waves are typically calm enough to be an ideal spot for beginner surfers, but as you go farther out they get more intense. Hanalei also supposedly was part of the inspiration for Puff the Magic Dragon, and you can even see the mist rolling down the surrounding mountains. I love that I got to experience this amazing place, and I hope everyone is fortunate enough to...
Read moreThe movie South Pacific was filmed at this location. The Hanalei Bay is surrounded by mountains like a half moon. You can take a leisurely stroll along the shore while viewing the majestic mountains and shimmering water falls. Not only is the 360 panoramic view from the pier beautifully captured by the eyes. You can experience the warm water from the end of the pier by jumping into the ocean. Swim to the ladder back up to the platform and jump again. Great exercise walking the beach, jumping from the pier and swimming amidst beautiful surroundings. Relaxation is another way to enjoy the beach reading, eating and meditating. On full moons this beach is enjoyed by couples getting close to each other. An activity that doesn't require swimsuits....
