We did the tea house challenge hike, stating here on the lake Agnes tea house trail! We hiked to mirror lake first, and then continued to the lake Agnes tea house and stopped to have tea. Lines were long here since it’s relatively short hike to get to, so plan to take tea to-go, or wait for a table! The tea was great though. Then we took the big beehive trail around the lake and up to big beehive- stopping for an epic snack break view! Then we took the big beehive trail down to meet the highline trail, to connect with the plain of six glaciers trail. This took us to the second tea house of the day- plain of six glaciers tea house! The views here are as epic as they sound, an up close view of six different glaciers across a lovely meadow. Here we got lunch- hot meal of the day- veggie chili, tea biscuits and jam, PB&J sandwich, and some lemonade! Not sure about lake Agnes, but this teahouse closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly! You can even hike another short out and back trail to the plain of six glaciers viewpoint, which had me shaking in my hiking boots. It can get a bit windy up there, so be prepared for a little adrenaline! But seriously the most epic hike we’ve ever done. It was about 12 mi/19 km, and worth every step! On the way back we took the plain of six glaciers trail all the way back down to lake Louise, which I suggest since it’s more flat and a beautiful view the entire way as you get closer to the lake. Your legs...
Read moreIt takes 90-120 minutes to hike from the lake to the Teahouse, and while you go through 400 metres of elevation, it’s mostly a steady, wide path that takes you there, apart from the stairs at the start and end. Around half way there’s a nice slot in the trees for lake views, and near the end there’s Big Beehive, Mirror Lake and the final waterfall below the Teahouse. This is not the hike for getting away from it all – while only a fraction of the crowds at the lake shore will take this hike, you will walk with, and pass, thousands over the course of the there and back hike. But it’s worth it – the Teahouse is a delight, and its setting just sensational. Views here are nice, but to get the classic views back down to the lake you need to take the walk up behind the Teahouse to Little Beehive. If you’re not up to the full climb, there’s actually superb views just a hundred metres along the track behind the Teahouse. But if you can make it to the top (about 20 minutes each way) the views on a clear day are stunning. Return to the lake shore is the same way you came up, but from Little Beehive there is a short cut before the Teahouse that...
Read moreWe loved this trail! Well marked path up the mountain to the first tea house. You walk through the trees and have peaks of the lake at times. Elevation wasn't bad, it felt slow and steady. We completed the full Tea House Challenge and visited both tea houses. On the way back to the car we walked along the lake. The hike to the first one is easier than the hike to the second. The second trail is in the open, so don't forget sunscreen. It's also more rocky than the dirt path to the first house. Total distance was just over 9miles. We arrived and parked about 7am and managed to get a parking spot, but it was definitely one of the few left. There is a restroom near both lots. You start out at the lake in front of the hotel. Bring cash if you plan on enjoying food/drinks at the Tea House. Would definitely recommend for...
