Minister Shipley sent out a flyer stating “stop car theft” to Barrie residences recently.
Basically it was trying to blame the current federal government for the current theft epidemic due to not enough sea can inspections at ports and catch and release bail rules for car thieves.
As a repeat car theft victim (5 times now/no investigations/no arrests) I found Minister Shipleys solution just shows a continued lack of understanding from both Liberal and Conservative politicians of why it’s happening.
The elephant in the room nobody seems to want to discuss is the “discretion to do nothing” politicians give police in Ontario to not enforce the current car theft laws.
The police are “too busy” to investigate car thefts for the average person. That’s a big part of what has lead to the current situation, where not only do thieves have a low chance of getting caught, they are brazen enough to break in to your home to find your fob now.
If Minister Shipley noticed in the news he would see things like:
“Toronto Couple recovers stolen vehicle on their own”
“Constable Ricciardi recommends leaving your fob near the front door to prevent the possibility of being attacked in your home”
Should we maybe just leave the keys in the ignition for them too sir??
I asked Minister Shipley a question in a email I sent his office regarding my June 2020 Barrie truck theft attempt smashing out my ignition in my driveway.
After waiting 6 hours to attend I provided Barrie Police with a suspect description and canvassed my neighbours later to update BPS WITH THE SUSPECTS ADDRESS too.
Guess what they did….NOTHING (They had dna also from all the blood left in my interior)
The question Minister Shiipleys office ignored twice with their form letter email response:
“Is Minister Shipley ok with BPS doing nothing with victims conducting their own investigation providing a physical description/address of a suspect?”
My suggested solution was to make it law the police have to investigate car thefts instead of using their “ discretion to do nothing”
Regarding the very low percentage of car theft convictions/catch and release bail availability, let’s start by denying bail to violent offenders out killing OPP officers in...
Read moreWhere do I even begin? After more than a year of waiting for my PR card from IRCC, and trying every day to contact them via phone, and not even connecting to a person, I contacted Doug Shipleys office. My husband had previously contacted them as I had taken IRCC 10 months to still not send me a work permit, within 3 days of contacting them I received confirmation of my work permit and permanent residence. They have been my saviours! After emailing Doug Shipleys office I received a response from Prabhat Batra who was eager to help me. Over the next few days he stayed in contact and gave me updates as things progressed. It turned out that the IRCC has sent out my PR card but to my old address even though I had changed the address online via the IRCC system prior to them sending it. I had previously faxed in a solemn declaration as I had not received my PR card and couldn't get any answers. Prabhat tried to see if he could get them to process my request faster but sadly was unable to, however, I had my PR card sent out to me 2 weeks later. They have been nothing but helpful from start to finish. Thank you again Prabhat for your outstanding work and...
Read moreI cannot recommend the Office of MP Doug Shipley enough. My finance and I recently applied for my permanent residency in Canada and were having difficulty getting in touch with Immigration Canada. Thankfully, we were able to turn to MP Doug Shipley's office for assistance, and they were incredibly helpful in communicating with the government on our behalf.
Prabhat, in particular, went above and beyond in assisting us with my PR application and following up with IRCC. Without his help, we may have been lost in the system, but instead, we are much further along in the PR process now.
It's clear that Doug Shipley's office truly cares about their constituents and is dedicated to helping them with their needs. I feel fortunate to have such a responsive and helpful MP in our community, especially after hearing horror stories from people in other regions with less-than-helpful MPs.
If you're in need of assistance with government matters, I highly recommend reaching out to the Office of MP Doug Shipley. They'll go the extra mile to...
