Mississauga Celebration Square, aka Celebration Square, is a 4.8 acre outdoor civic square and park in Mississauga, Ontario. It located next to the city hall and the central library. The square's large water feature located in the centre is frequented by family especially when it turns into an ice rink in the winter.
Celebration Square’s Canada day event is an annual festival that includes cultural performances. The event is extremely popular and has attracted over 100,00 visitors each year. The event concludes with a firework showcase at 10:00 pm. It is the finale of the Canada Day Celebration at the Square.
Apart from the annual Canada Day celebration, there are daily activities held in summer months. Daily activities include Splash in the fountain, food trucks. Weekly events include Fresh air fitness, summer sports, farmers market (every Wednesday), open air storytime, movie nights (every Thursday).
As Canada is a multinational country, all different cultures are all appreciated. Each year from May to October, many cultural festivals are held at the square such as Jackalope, Latin festival, Japan festival (the 9th year 2024, my favourite festival), Italfest, Portugalo Fest, Egyptian Fest, South East Asia fest, Middle East Fest, Diwali Razzmatazz. Visitors can taste plentiful of different countries’ cuisines and snacks and purchase many unique artifacts or clothings at the festivals. Folk dancing and singing performances are held at the stage which are enjoyed by visitors. People dressed in their national attires are proudly walk in parades at some festivals. Each weekend there is a special festival attended by hundreds of participants and visitors. The square is filled with lively music and food vendors whilst visitors enjoy the joyful and pleasant atmosphere every weekend.

Read moreThe third Monday in February is dedicated in Canada to celebrate "Family Day". Such holidays and events are usually chosen to be on Friday or Monday, to connect with the weekend, so that almost every month has a long weekend. Families gather and celebrate their feast in different ways, and the share of the young ones from the celebrations is the largest on such a feast. In the city of Mississauga, the celebration square in the city center was packed with families this day despite the cold (temperature is 5 degrees Celsius and the wind chill makes it 2 degrees). Parents with their children in the green square surrounded by small trucks selling fast food, hot and cold drinks, and ice cream. The square under the sun and the spread of people in it looks like the seashore. In addition to the lower green part of the square, there is the ice rink, where the skaters, most of whom are children, move, skilled skaters and other beginners and other trainees who are not discouraged by repeated falls from continuing their training in the hope of mastery. A relatively small area at the edge of the square was closed with iron barriers, around which children and parents gather without pushing, and those who did not find a place in the vicinity of this space stood on adjacent steps to watch the following activity: the dinosaur dance. I stood with them alongside fathers and mothers carrying their children on their shoulders so that they could watch. Children wonder when the dinosaur will come, and parents reassure them, "In a few minutes." The dinosaur came and greeted everyone and started making movements, followed by "Wowwww"s, with exclamations and admiration...
Read moreMississauga Celebration Square is truly the heartbeat of the city — a vibrant, energetic, and community-focused space that never fails to impress. Whether it’s a regular evening walk or a special event, this place always has something to offer.
The weekend programs are absolutely amazing. From the Canada Day celebrations that light up the sky with fireworks and music, to the Jackalope skateboard competitions that bring thrilling energy to the square, there's always something exciting happening. I also got to experience the Bollywood dance party, and it was nothing short of electric — colorful, high-energy, and inclusive. Events like these make the square feel like a piece of downtown Toronto, right in the heart of Mississauga.
The layout is spacious and modern, with a big open-air screen, fountains, stage, and wide steps where you can just sit, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. It’s a perfect blend of urban design and community warmth. It’s also well-connected and easily accessible, with nearby restaurants, parking, and public transport.
Every visit feels fresh and memorable. Whether you're there for a cultural event, a food truck festival, or just to chill with friends, this place delivers. I absolutely love it and feel proud that such a dynamic space exists in Mississauga.
