Incredibly disappointing. The building is large and compelling from the outside, but the inside of the museum is tiny. Although the inside is clean and modern, there is nothing much to see.
There were only two exhibits and they were not worth the price at all ($10 per adult). One exhibit was made up of approximately 6 video and sound projects. The other exhibit contained about 12 paintings. There seemed to be lots of closed off rooms and areas in the museum with nothing in them.
It was very hard to concentrate on the video and sound projects because of the ambient sounds in the museum and the muddled sounds of the other videos. They really need to work on their sound design and isolation. Half of the videos were quite long, one coming in at approximately an hour, which to me was really boring. The painting exhibit was also, frankly, uninteresting, and the works weren't great.
It took about 25 minutes to see the whole place, and that's while stopping to look and read about every single piece, and watching part of each video. Overall it was a waste of...
Read moreSince my original review three years ago, the museum has temporarily moved to a new location a few minutes on foot from its permanent location in the entertainment district. It's now situated in a much smaller space inside Place Ville Marie. The original location is undergoing extensive renovations that were originally scheduled to finish in 2024, but that will probably last much longer. The temporary location doesn't display any of the museum's permanent collection, but is still worth a look.
Original review: This is not a large museum by any measure. I was expecting it to be bigger because of its location in the heart of the city's entertainment district. What it lacks in size, it makes up in originality, playfulness and quirkiness. The exhibits are visually striking, engaging and well displayed. Go there only if you are willing to play along and let yourself become temporarily part of...
Read moreI am absolutely in love with this Museum. For many years it received Montrealers and visitors from all Canada and the world with a robust own collection of Canadian art but also with treasures from all over the globe received by generous donors. You will be amazed with Napoleon's collection, the masters from Europe or the rich Innuit sculptures. For kids and adults of all ages. Beautiful architecture, many places to sit and enjoy the visit. Amazing boutique, great cafeteria. Always available assistance from employees in both French and English. Diverse activities for kids. Seminars. Enrich content in most of the collection that provides video and extra information about artists and/or the piece of art in particular. A full day visit is never enough to see it all. You cannot say you visited Montreal if you never included this Museum in...
