I had seen rave reviews about this place, so my girlfriends and I headed down for a brunch. When I arrived two of my friends were in the midst of ordering so I quickly made a decision and happened to get the same mimosa as one of my friends. When the server returned she dropped off one drink, but not the other two. Not sure why she wouldn't have waited until they were all ready and brought them at the same time.
We will still waiting for our fourth to arrive, so we were asked a couple of times if we wanted to order or wait. We waited for a bit and then as we finished ordering , our last friend got there. When the dishes arrived my friends hash was cold , but the dish at least looked appetizing.
One friend and I had decided to split the eggs benny and the breakfast mac n cheese. When the dishes arrived , I took one benny and put it on my friends plate along side some of the potatoes, and she scooped out some mac n cheese to put on my plate. The mac and cheese sauce was really runny and not a nice creamy , cheesy texture you would hope for. When I went to cut into my eggs benny , the egg was poached pretty hard. On the menu it lists it as a " soft medium poach" , so maybe specify if you actually want it to be runny.
When the server came back asking what id like, ( which was a new eggs benny), she kept suggesting to come with a soft poached egg and tried to take away my plate.. which also had my mac n cheese on it that I split with my friend. I had to tell her no, I would like to keep my plate as I was still eating that portion of food on my plate. A food runner came back with a single soft poached egg in a bowl. I had to scraped off what little hollandaise was on my original egg and try to salvage this dish. When the server came back to quality check , my friend let her know about the running cheese sauce and a manager came back to let us know he had taken it off the bill.
My friend had ordered the breakfast grilled cheese and when it arrived the fries were cold and she actually wanted the hashbrowns for her side. When we wanted the bill our server was really struggling to remember who had what, even though she was the one who took the order.
So the bills were a little bit mixed up, and the charge for the hashbrowns were on there ($8!) for a side, which she said she would take off as it was supposed to come with the sandwhich. After this confusion the manager came back again and let us know they were going to comp our entire meals bill as they were very busy and new, and hoped we would come back again.
Overall, the service was a bit interesting, even though they were heavily staffed. Food was lacking in any flavour and the tables do not even have salt or pepper shakers. Our drinks were good, but it did not salvage the experience. ( POGmosa and Royal hawaiian)
-2 for server, -2 for food, +1 for drinks, +1 for manager Unlikely to return in the near future even with the manager trying to rectify the issues. I hope it did not sound too harsh, but we have all worked in the food and beverage industry and just...
Read moreThis place was very hyped up. Have heard a lot about it and saw the reviews so figured we’d give it a try. Took almost four weeks to get a reservation when we were all free and we were excited to give it a try. We were left disappointed and don’t plan to return. I don’t know if we caught them on an off day, but there are brunch places we like much better.
First, it was a slow experience. From the time we arrived for our reservation to when we left was about 2hours. Our drink orders were take shortly after we sat down but it took awhile before they came out. We ordered 20minutes after we all sat down and it took about an hour for the food to arrive.
Two of our group order flights and they were not impressed by the quantity. They expected them to be 3/4-full like the brewery flights nearby. But they were maybe half full, though one cup was noticeably lower. Like 1/4-1/3 full. For $13, it didn’t look like it together would make one full mimosa. And $5.25 for a non-refillable glass of orange juice? Overpriced. And it was almost $5 for luke warm chocolate.
The food itself was okay. It was way too over-hyped for both the cost, flavour, and quantity. The best dish was the Yorkshire Benedict and it was tiny. They were the size of squished gold balls with 2 small poached eggs on top and maybe a 1/2-3/4 cup of potatoes on the side. (~$17).
Next was the breakfast grilled cheese ($17 or $21 with avocado). I don’t know that you can call something with so little cheese a grilled cheese. A centimetre around the edge to the crust remained untouched by cheese. There was maybe two slices of bacon and a bit of egg and potatoes. Potatoes took up more space than the cheese, eggs or bacon. They also were NOT listed as a filling on the menu, by the way. The bread was also way too thick and pretty dry.
The fries were okay. Which wouldn’t have been an issue but one person in the group order truffle fries ($7) and for the same quantity that came with our meal she said it tasted about the same as our regular fries too.
She also got the Mac n cheese with bacon and sausage. She said it was the worst Mac n cheese she has ever had. I tried it and mostly felt that it just tasted like salt. And while there was a cheese like sauce at the bottom it looked a bit watery and there wasn’t much of it. She hated the sausage, which is a Turkey and herbs kind of sausage not the pork she had been expecting.
Overall, I wouldn’t say any of it was really bad. But it was not good enough to justify the cost or the wait time. There are too many other places nearby to make it worth it. Which is why we...
Read moreMy daughter and I met up with a friend of ours for brunch at The Hard Bean Brunch Co. in Port Moody. Our friend ordered the Yorkshire Benny while my little girl and I decided to load up on sweets, cuz in our house...weekends are for sweets! She had the S'more French Toast and an Orange Creamsicle Smoothie and I had the Tiramisu Waffle.
Yorkshire Benny: Smaller than expected. Eggs were nicely poached but the rest of it was very ordinary, and nothing to write home about.
S'more French Toast: "Delightful!" was the first word my girl used to describe it. It was a very sweet dish; almost too sweet, but not quite!
Orange Creamsicle Smoothie: Creamy but not super creamy. The perfect amount of sweetness with the satisfaction of a nice ripe orange.
Tiramisu Waffle: 4 squares of waffle, stacked upon each other with whipped mascarpone in between each layer, so there's an ample amount of it to eat with the waffles. Tasty but as Tiramisu is generally known to be a coffee flavoured dessert, I think this dish could have used more coffee in it.
Service: Fair Parking: Street parking Location: On a quieter street, but only a couple of blocks down from the much busier St. Johns St.so it should not be hard to find. Once you're there, it's a fairly large restaurant with glass windows and it's right at the corner of the street.
The restaurant was incredibly loud inside. None of us really cared for the noise level. It seems to be a very hip, trendy and popular place. There was definitely a lot of energy in the air. It's a great place for boisterous groups of people to get together; however, we're just not that...
