Wow, this is super disappointing to write and I’m writing this because I used to work in restaurants and for the most part, I understand why restaurants do things the way they do… but I am quite mad still about our experience, yesterday, July 19th.
I also really like the food here and so it makes it even more disappointing that I’ve decided today that I will no longer give them business.
A group of us, six to be exact arrived at 5 o’clock to grab a table because they do not take reservations. One of us was running behind due to traffic so we decided to go ahead and get the available table and the general manager very rudely before seating us told us that it’s a 90 minute time limit.
Are we still doing this like it’s Covid?
Anyway, fine you’re a busy restaurant and you’re trying to have more turnover. I get it. Her disrespectful tone was completely unnecessary.
Then we were brought to our table which was a high table and we have a very pregnant guest with us- almost 9 months pregnant and we had asked for a lower table which was available that had a bench, but we were told that it is being reserved for couples.. OK I get that but we have a visibly pregnant guest with us and this woman was absolutely atrocious with her comment when I moved to another seat for her comfort, and we were asked if she wanted a cushion. Actually, a more appropriate table that was available would’ve been better! Just that alone irritated me so much that I almost wanted to just leave with the group and trust me we almost did.
We definitely had a lot to say about the situation after she had left the table, but decided you know what, we’re just going to enjoy our night anyways… forget her!
We ordered drinks we ordered our food and then the general manager came to our table after we had ordered and told us that pizzas are cut into 4 traditionally and to me that suggested that we weren’t ordering enough food to be taking up this precious space in their restaurant ! I have never in my life experienced that and again this was a discussion at the table after she left. We ordered two pizzas, a pasta, and an appetizer. Not to mention, we had to pay 20% tip on top of this no matter what.
Thankfully, our server, who is the very funny Greek guy working there (I’m sorry, I don’t know his name), he definitely did his best to make us feel welcomed. They are lucky to have him!
The table we were sitting at was not meant for six people, and it was really cramped and our table filled up really fast with the dishes and everything else so it was a pain to keep adjusting things as things were coming to the table.
I read through a lot of the reviews that were one star on Google and I have to say… they are not taking the complaints seriously!
When reading this I hope you do something about your front of house staff and have a word with your manager … she alone will ruin your business !
*My response to Manager: your response to a negative review is everything! You did not apologize at all here- I have screenshot of it so if you decide to change it later…I’ve got proof that you are just as cold in your response as you were in person. Doesn’t matter what your policies are-you set the tone from the start of our evening and trust me it wasn’t warm and welcome. Don’t confuse our politeness with anything other than being polite, which is what you should’ve been. None of us were rude to you… just annoyed. We simply asked to be seated at another table and we were snapped back with.. No (you’re not important enough) to be moved in another area. And an almost 9 month old pregnant guest should not be climbing up onto a barstool in a cramped area. She was being polite because after all, we were there to have a good time and we were not going to let you ruin it. You didn’t come to the table very often actually and I’ve been to this restaurant a dozen times and have never been told about before Pizza slices. Same with the rest of us.
Your response to my complaint says everything about you and how you feel about your customers. They are all just dollar ...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I decided to try out a new restaurant after a long week so we could relax and have some good food. Our experience here ended up stressing us out more than our entire week.
Starting with our drinks, my girlfriend had to ask for a straw 4 separate times before someone finally brought one - asked the server 3 times and then asked a busser. The busser was the one that eventually got us a straw. By the time we got the straw, the soda was already watered down by the ice (about 10 minutes)
The highlight of the meal was the plain focaccia bread. This brought us the most enjoyment of everything we had tried. I want to note that the tables for 2 are unreasonably small, especially if you have drinks, an appy, and mains. When our mains came out, the woman that brought out our food emphasized how hot the plates were and not to touch them but then proceeded to try to fit them on the table with the large round plate holding the foccacia bread. The pasta dishes were hanging off the table by about a third of the plate and I was worried about it falling and burning my lap - especially after they warned us how hot it is.
Once we had our mains we were not checked on for over 5 minutes and we did not start eating the food since we needed salt and pepper as the food was not seasoned properly. We sat waiting for someone to walk over for us to ask for seasoning. While eating the server asked me if I wanted a refill on my drink which I responded with a yes - he then proceeded to disappear for 10 minutes and we ended up asking for to-go boxes and the bill since he didn’t bring the drink. Our entire experience was ruined by the lack of care, service, or consistency. Once we asked for the bill, we waited for another 10 minutes and no one came by so we decided to take matters into our own hands and walk up to the hostess stand to request our bills a second time and pay while standing up in front of others waiting by the hostess stand. This experience was terrible and I’m not quite sure what we even paid for – service was atrocious and food...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Spacca Napoli after seeing it rated as the best pizza in Canada. As food enthusiasts who love trying new restaurants, we drove all the way from North Vancouver to Port Moody, excited for an exceptional experience.
First Impressions: We arrived on a cold, rainy day to find a long line outside, even though plenty of empty tables were visible inside. Despite this, we waited 30 minutes (with only four couples ahead of us) before being seated.
Food: We ordered the potato croquette (a waitress recommendation), Margherita pizza, Pappardelle al Ragù, and Alla Facciazza pizza to sample a variety of dishes. Here's my take:
Potato croquette: Completely bland. No seasoning, and even the cheese inside was flavorless. Pappardelle al Ragù: Disappointing. It looked nothing like the photo on their website. What I got was dry, bland pasta with no noticeable tomato sauce or salt. Margherita pizza: It was fine but unremarkable. The three tiny basil leaves in the center didn’t add much flavor. Alla Facciazza pizza: Better than the Margherita but still lacked salt, making it underwhelming overall. Service: The staff seemed overwhelmed. The bartender juggled serving tables, making drinks, and cleaning up, which made the experience feel disorganized.
We were given a small table for two, which was cramped for the amount of food we ordered. When we struggled to make space, the waitress suggested, "You guys don’t need plates, right?"—a baffling solution.
To top it off, the pasta arrived after the pizza, and I wasn’t offered cheese or any other finishing touch. Throughout the meal, no one checked on us or asked how the food was. Even at the end, while paying the bill, there was no "How was everything?"—a simple courtesy that could have salvaged the experience.
Final Thoughts: Best pizza in Canada? Definitely debatable. The pasta and croquettes were mediocre at best. Unfortunately, the lackluster food, chaotic service, and inattentiveness left us disappointed.
Would I recommend Spacca Napoli? No. It doesn’t live up...
