I will give a 2 Star because of the initial service i recieved from one particular salesman, Ken. He was so patient and really helpful and he made me want to buy in that store i even left a deposit of $500. Then i went the second time to make sure the couch was what i wanted as Ken had explained to me that it would not be a problem if i cancelled the order. There was this really rude man i did not even speak to much on that day but he was almost forcing me to get the couch or get out of the store. I brushed it off till today when he called me early morning in his rude tone asking about my order and i told him i would drop by the store. I went to the store later and i asked if i was still going to get my $50 discount for transport that Ken had promised me. It had nothing to do with what i was ordering because Ken offered before i even picked anything. The other guy in the store looked really terrified of this man who said he was the manager. I am really shocked that such a rude man can be a manager. He was literally screaming at me saying, "here we don't play games." How can i honestly in my correct senses spend 2hours of my time playing games? Even leaving $500 dep? So i told him nicely i was not there to play games, then he said, " so all because of $50 suddenly the world must come to an end."Please note i had every right to ask for that $50 as it was going to cover transportation as Ken put it. He told me to keep quiet rudely in a threatening way when he was returning my deposit on my card. The only reason i kept quiet as this man perfomed is im a trained proffessional and did not want to cause a scene. If it had been any other person, that situation was going to turn out really ugly. He is very rude and looks at people as if he is disgusted. The most weird part is i heard him offering $50 to other customers in the store and he was really nice to them. I am only human so the first thing that came to my mind was he just doesn't like black people. Because i honestly cannot think of any reason why he treated and spoke to me differently from other customers. I dont think Surplus is a bad store thats why i put in orders the first time. But this man, he even kept reminding me that he was the manager on top of his voice. With a salesman like Ken and the other guy the store will be just fine. If there is anywhere i can lay a formal complaint please advise. I honestly wouldnt want any one treated badly by this man because of their race...
Read moreI purchased a couch from them about 2 years ago. The sales person was helpful, but they were really pushy. I loved the couch i chose, did the payment plan and had it delivered. I was told it would be delivered on my move in date- it was about two hours late when i called the store. They said i hadn't even paid for it yet which is why it wasn't delivered... even though the sales person stated that he would have it delivered on that day, and have my payment go through that day. They got the couch to me that day which was great, but it was frustrating that they didn't have better communication with each other in regards to my payment & delivery.
The couch didn't even last 5/6 months. The cushions went flat, the fabric started pilling. I didn't get a warranty- so i couldn't call back and expect repair (plus i have pets, and i didn't want to deal with the hassle of being told they damaged the couch when in fact they did not- it was just a crappy couch to begin with).
about a year and a half later i called the store to inquire about getting a replacement cushion covers as one had gotten damaged (i was not asking for it for free- i was WILLING TO PAY FOR IT but just wanted to know if they could order it for me as i couldn't find the company online). I was met with a rude employee on the phone saying i bought the couch x amount of years ago, its not covered anymore by warranty. I reiterated that i didn't want it for nothing. I was told it would be in in 1 month. I never got a call about them coming in, called again and was told i would be called when it came in- never was so i just gave up. Good prices, but poor...
Read moreI recently Bought some furniture st.catharines location I purchased a mattress in king that I was told was memory foam but wasn't I had to go buy memory foam after to make the bed comfortable enough to sleep on. I bought a bedroom set for my daughter which she loves so far but when I was unpacking the set after it was delivered I couldn't find a mirror for the dresser not realizing that the mirror for the dresser needed to be bought separate when I called about it the salesman Jesse had told me he would be happy to add it to my bill, I had financed so was told I could add to it for a certain period of time after the sale. I went into the store to add the mirror. That's when the salesman Jesse told me that I would would have to purchase a minimum of 3 or $400 more items of furniture. Lol what a joke. I'll take my business to Leon's or the brick for anymore purchases they also deliver for free. Surplus makes you pay 60 cash for delivery. Bad business they lost me for any future deals.
