Mediocre food quality with below average shelf life. I usually buy their almost-expiring food items to save on money since these are what they typically discount. But even when I do purchase their regular products, I’ve had multiple instances where their products (mostly chicken) go bad and produce a rotting scent days before their listed expiry date. The only reason I go to this FreshCo is because it’s the closest one to me and it has a deal with Scotiabank’s Scene plan.
Usually I wouldn’t go out of my way to write a negative review about a business, but all of the time I wasted to resolve THEIR mistake prompted me to write them a deserving review. Here’s the story of what happened. On Wednesday August 2nd, I went in to buy an Amazon gift card along with 2 other items. As I was getting my items checked out by the cashier, the cashier called someone to help them with processing the gift card. They seemed to have issues with the gift card but let my purchase go through and told each other to stop gift card purchases for the day. Despite this, they gave me my gift card and receipt and emphasized to me to keep my receipt. Obviously suspicious of how the employees were, I tried redeeming the gift card once I got home and of course it didn’t work. So I return to this FreshCo to the same employee that “helped” my cashier so that I could get a refund but they couldn’t do anything without the manager there. So I returned on another day; manager still isn’t there. Finally the manager is there to process my refund on my 4th visit relating to this gift card. Long story short, the employees allowed me to purchase and knowingly let me leave the store with a defective gift card and all I received for these 4 visits was extra steps walked and a bunch of wasted time.

Read moreI shop here alot because I work nearby and it's convenient, but what's with the restocking of shelves af 5 pm when everyone gets out of work? You have to maneuver your cart around boxes, banging into people in the already tight aisles. And the staff give you attitude if you ask them to grab something off a shelf that you can't reach, because of the boxes! The eyerolls when asking them to move or get by is ridiculous. Either stock late at night after closing or before 5 pm rush hour.
By the way, you need to have better security at the entrances, as I've been harassed by homeless people or people begging me for money the moment I step out the door at the exit. I'm speaking of the exit right after you pay at the cashier, not at the bottom entrance by the escalators. That's a whole different ballgame. People openly doing crack right by the entrance or.drunk, on numerous occasions. I won't shop there at night, that's for sure.
All in all, I'll give it 3 stars because of the selection and large variety it has, especially international foods, and the price is much better...
Read moreEdit one year later: it’s worse than ever here. The produce is some of the worst in the city. The attached photo is of decomposing cherries covered in fruit flies… theres a section in the produce area for what I assume is supposed to be food that’s soon to go bad. Everything there is always rotten to the core, and the boxes of these items keeps piling higher every week. The excessive waste and apathy from the employees & management is disgusting. They will happily chase people out of the store who are so hungry they are willing to steal a loaf of bread, however they clearly could care less about the actual quality of the food they’re trying to sell to paying customers. —————— Half of the produce here is ALWAYS mouldy, employees could not be less helpful and aisles are always overflowing with unpacked boxes of items. Searching for/typing in produce codes at the self-serve check out only work 20% of the time and during busy times only two check-outs with people are open. Literally the worst grocery store I’ve ever been to. The discounts are good but not...
