Used to love this place, nowhere else to get flavors like they have. But banning samples ruined the entire appeal. Whatâs the point in having 200 flavors you canât find anywhere else if you canât make sure you like something youâve never had elsewhere before you buy it.
The cost is very high per scoop which used to be worth it - but once again - not anymore! Now that you might buy a nearly 7$ scoop of something you might find inedible like I did yesterday. I usually LOVE ginger and eat it plain but the ginger flavor was legitimately inedible it was so strong - a sample would have prevented me from tossing the entire thing I payed for. I want ice cream not Russian roulette.
To add insult to injury I had asked for a cup in case my cone starts melting since I was driving - something I do at every ice cream place Iâve ever been and have never been denied. They said itâs not allowed. Meaning when I needed something to dispose of my inedible scoop in my car I had nowhere to put it and the napkins they offered me instead were useless. Talk about cheap - you canât even get a little cup of water to wash your mouth out if you find the flavor inedible like me. Gotta buy that too! 2.50 for water. They wonât even accept credit cards to escape credit card fees - never been somewhere so greedy. Not the kind of people I would trust to eat from if theyâre scrimping on costs on the front end like this, imagine what theyâre doing on the back end.
$6.50-10.50 for an ice cream cone and they canât be bothered to spare a fricking cup in case your cone starts melting or a sample to make sure you actually like the flavor youâre paying for!?!? I would gladly pay a quarter per sample or something as another reviewer suggested but if theyâre going to be greedy cheapskates like this and bank all samples Iâm never coming back to waste money on ice cream I have to throw away again since any flavor they offer that I canât get elsewhere isnât worth buying if I canât make sure I like it first. Might as well go ANYWHERE else.
Edit: oh I forgot - the other last flavor I bought I was also unhappy with. The London fog was entirely bland - couldnât taste any bergamot at all. And I bought a tub of that. Another $10 wasted on a flavor that ended up being nothing like expected. Really is like Russian roulette where some flavors are horribly bland like this one and others are so strong you canât even stomach a taste like the ginger. Should have gone...
Read moreI love Casa De Gelato.
I lived in surrey and now I hav moved to Abbotsford. And i have literally droven up to Vancouver just to get a few buckets of ice cream from Casa de Gelato.
What more can i say then that. Im literally willing to drive more then an hour 15 mins just for Ice cream.
I have tried Ice cream from so many different places. Baskin robbins different places that call themselves Casa Gelato. Small chain Ice cream joints. In my opinion nothing compares to Casa de Gelato.
And whats crazier is I stay simple i get stuff like Vanilla, Death by Mango, Strawberry Cheesecake. It has a perfect mixture of smoothness with the slight taste of mango or strawberry. The strawberry Cheesecake has a perfect mix of strawberry with the hint of Cheesecake. Along with the, how do you explain it, creaminess and smoothness of Ice cream.
I have had Ice cream thats taste watery or some that are waaaay to sweet and some that leave a weird after taste.
But Casa de Gelato has none of that. If you like Mango you will get Mango. My Dad likes chocolate hes tried different chocolate Ice creams. He had this one chocolate and cherry mix and even that feot like it had the perfect mix of chocolate with cherry bites. And what i mean with that is every time i try and take a bite of it. You wont feel like all you taste is chocolate or all you taste is cherry. You feel the mix. You get the chocolate with the occassional mix of sweet.
Casa de Gelato the have over 200 and some flavours, Go. And if some crazy reason you still havent gone. Im telling you to go stop reading get some Ice cream get your family, get your girlfriend, get your wife, sister, cousins, siblings just Go. Lol
The pic is Death by Mango my Absolute Favourite. Its a 500 ml bucket. You can get one size bigger too.
Keep in mind its not cheap but trust me...
Read moreHailed as the Guinness Book of World Records holder (2019 edition) for âthe most flavours of ice cream commercially availableâ at 238 total, La Casa Gelato has been our go-to spot to bring friends/family visiting Vancouver from out of town for an easy kid-in-a-candyshop experience.
From the moment you step through the door, itâs a sensory overload of colours, fragrances, and the cheerful sound of kid-kids and adult-kids mulling over their first world problem of which flavour to get. Thereâs a rhyme and reason with the way the flavours were arranged. Think of it as orderly sections at a library: similar flavour groupings are largely positioned close to each other: 1) a fruit based section; 2) a dairy based section; 3) a specialty chocolate section; 4) a sugar-free section; 5) a non-dairy (sorbet) section; and, of course, 6) a section of unconventional/wacky flavours.
Purchases are managed at the entrance counter, where you obtain different coloured poker chips denoting the quantity of your purchased serving: [x] number of scoops, or [y] number of take-out cartons. Thereâs also a selection of non-ice cream desserts such as cakes if you donât succumb to an icy treat.
In theory you could spend hours in here, poker chips in hand, in a state of decision paralysis (or perhaps decision freeze?) on what to get. Our tip - spend a good few minutes strolling around to read all the labels first, before circling back to the flavour names you could still remember. Commit to your choices, and just walk out feeling happy. You just...
