I came here while I was in Dubai and was getting my hair blowouts done a couple of times. From the first appointment, I felt like way too much heat was being used on my hair, it was burning my scalp, and I even told the stylist that it was too hot. My hair is naturally curly but soft, so it doesn’t require that kind of excessive heat or pressure. From the very first time my scalp and hair smelled burnt. Even after washing multiple times, the burning smell lingered for days, which I had never experienced before. Despite this, I wasn’t sure what the issue was. I kept getting blowouts because I had no other place to go. I did ask the stylist to lower the heat setting after, but the damage was irreversible at that point. Marwa was the stylist who did my hair every time. She once asked me to leave a Google review and even told me word-for-word what to write while watching me type it. After that, she mentioned she would use a special heat protectant “because I did that for her”— mind you, she never used anything on my hair during the other sessions. For context, I regularly get blowouts and always maintain the health of my curls. I’ve never once experienced heat damage before, so I know what my hair can and cannot handle. It wasn’t until I returned to Canada that I realized the extent of the damage. While in Dubai, I thought my curls weren’t forming because of the humidity and weather change. Now My curls would no longer form, and despite cutting my hair and doing multiple treatments, the damage is still very visible and hard to reverse.

I had a terrible experience at this salon, and I feel compelled to share it. From start to finish, the service was shockingly unprofessional and disappointing. The stylist assigned to me was visibly nervous and handled my hair as if she was scared to touch it. Despite my growing concern, I hoped she would improve as she progressed. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The haircut was uneven, and when it came to blow-drying, she couldn’t even manage to smooth out the frizz. After a poor attempt, she declared she was done. I was left in absolute shock. Realizing this was unacceptable, I requested a senior stylist to fix the damage. He worked on my hair for about 15 minutes, acknowledging the uneven cut and attempting to fix it. While he gave me a more presentable style with a curling iron, the entire experience felt rushed and dismissive. The fact that I had to point out obvious issues myself was infuriating. To make matters worse, the salon had the audacity to charge me $75 for this subpar service without so much as an apology. Instead, they brushed off my concerns and seemed more interested in getting me out the door than addressing their mistakes. This was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. I would strongly caution anyone considering this salon to look elsewhere. For $75, I expected professionalism, care, and at least basic competence – none of which were delivered. I will not be returning, and I hope others think twice before trusting this place with their hair.

I was recommended by my friend who has been a client of Lay for years. When I called last week, the receptionist was helpful and super attentive with my needs and answered my inquiry. I wanted to do a hair treatment because my hair was bleached and wanted to get a scalp treatment. She booked an appointment and provided me of the options available. I even got a reminder call the day before the appointment. When I arrived, the receptionist was friendly and the salon was very Covid friendly. She took my jacket and gave me a robe and I was asked to wait until my appointment. Lay took me in and had a look at my hair and recommended me what was best for me. She said because my hair was clean olaplex was the best treatment option for me. She told me the cost of the hair treatment and asked if I was ok before proceeding with any of it. I decided on the olaplex treatment with infrared flat iron and a scalp treatment for today. Lay knew I was trying to find a shampoo that works and even gave me two samples to try which i really appreciated. My hair looked amazing and was transformed with her amazing hands! You can have a look at the IG and website which is very helpful.

Decided to try this place as it was cheaper and closer to where I live. Definitely a huge mistake—it was waste of time & money.

I wanted to get my black roots touched up to match my platinum blond hair, but for some reason my stylist, Sophie, didn’t match the two colours. So my roots ended up being brassy while the rest of my hair was platinum. Who in the history of the world has ever asked for such a styling?? It’s much more noticeable in natural light so of course I didn’t realize the stark difference until I was already on my way home. After calling about this, I was told to wait for my first wash in order for the colours to match but that only made the difference more noticeable, even indoors now. It barely looks like any toner was even applied. I am appalled by this hair treatment.

Eventually I called to go back to get my roots corrected. If I knew I’d have to waste my time TWICE in order to get my hair done the correct way, I’d rather have paid more money to get someone who actually KNOWS what they are doing—the first time. The second toner session helped but the colours have still not been matched. Shocked at this treatment of hair and that any stylist would in good faith allow their client to walk out of the salon looking like a Trollz doll—not once, but twice. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning. Considering how empty the seats in the salon were, I’m quite sure I’m not the only one with such a...
