I went to the Spirit Halloween downtown location with my son, niece, sister-in-law, and my one-year-old daughter, and it was one of the worst shopping experiences in my whole life. From the moment we walked in employees were giving us an unwelcomed stare, which made everyone feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We drove 45 minutes from the North Vancouver location after spending over $200 simply because my niece needed to to exchange an item for a different size that was not available at the other store, and instead of handling it politely, the manager replied with “We don’t do exchanges at all” and was extremely rude and began talking aggressively to my five year old son for no reason. We asked her to stop, but she continued, and then she called the security guard, NASSER, who charged at me aggressively and came so close that I could smell his breath — he came 1 inch away from touching my pregnant stomach while I had my one-year-old daughter in hand. I felt terrified, shaken, unsafe, and completely disrespected. I then stepped back and told him to get away from me. The manager then told this man to get us out of the store! When we tried to leave peacefully, he actually chased us out of the store while yelling and stood at the top of the escalator smirking at us like a scary movie. We were humiliated, shaken, and upset. As soon as we got out of the sore we felt a sense of safety and relief. My kids were both shaken that they started crying the whole ride home and couldn’t sleep and even missed school the next day. At first, we thought we were the only ones who experienced this treatment, but after reading other reviews, it’s clear that multiple people have had the exact same terrifying experiences at this location especially with the manager. This behavior is completely unacceptable, especially toward a pregnant woman and a family with small children. We will be pursuing legal action regarding this matter. I will never return to this store and strongly advise others to STAY AWAY for...
Read moreExtremely upsetting experience. My friends and I were profiled as teen girls and treated absolutely horribly.
We asked an employee if there was a change room to try on one of the tops, and she explained there aren’t any change rooms because of theft concerns. We tried on the tops in the aisle in front of a mirror. The lady then approached us and showed an empty box, asking if we stole the item inside, and telling us there are cameras. We had not stolen anything.
She then tailed us very closely, an uncomfortable amount, less than two feet away at times. We asked her why she was doing so. She said she did not have to give us a reason. She also said that we should get the implication that we are unwelcome.
So, we are questioned, followed, and then told we are unwelcome without any reason as to why.
Additionally, we’re also sworn at. I put my bag on the ground for security to check, and my bag was kicked away. Completely disgusting behaviour.
They refused to check our bags, yet we were kicked out. Make it make sense.
Profiling is a huge issue in this establishment. Customers should not be made to feel unwelcome without any clear reason. We should not be treated as criminals because of internal biases. No one should be harassed, followed, and told they are not welcome without cause.
This was a horrible and unprofessional experience. My friend cried afterward because of the treatment. Treat people with basic human...
Read moreToday me and my four friends went to look at costumes at this store. We went in so excited to be in halloween spirit. We then proceeded to be shown an empty box by the manager and asked, “Do you know where this was? We have cameras.” We said no because we literally were just looking for corsets. We walked around and kept shopping but were being followed. Eventually I asked her if there was a problem. She proceeded to say that her job “was to follow her customers.” We asked her why she wasn’t following anyone else and she said, “I don’t need to explain anything to you.” She then proceeded to say we weren’t welcome in the store with no further explanation. I asked her to check our bags multiple times but she just refused. I opened our bags yet she refused to look and told her security not to touch our bags. I told her to call the police, and security, and she refused. She said she “didn’t have to do anything because it’s her store.” We then were told to leave. We were sworn at. My friends bag was kicked. At no point in our conversation did we say anything rude or even swear. Yet they did. This store is ridiculous. Teen girls just try to have fun yet instead we get put down and degraded. I urge you not to shop at this store, especially if you’re just looking to shop around. 0/10 review. Worst experience I’ve ever...
