Mediocre atmosphere with average food, but elevated by its spacious shower and good service.
Overall: 3.7/5
Atmosphere: 2.5/5 The interior design of the dining and resting area is tired and outdated, as if it was frozen in time in the 2000’s. The lounge was also packed to near-capacity, and the dining tables were fully occupied.
Shower: 4.7/5 As a pleasant surprise, the shower room is spacious, clean, and bright. More importantly, it has a toilet.
The water temperature was stable and the personal care products provided in the shower were good quality.
The towel smelled fresh and a step towel was provided. The hair dryer, although difficult to find, was powerful.
0.3 points were deducted because the rain shower head was too short and not adjustable.
F&B options: 3.5/5 Hot food options were limited and restocked infrequently. The dishes didn’t look fresh, so I decided to save my appetite for the plane instead.
On the bright side, they had haagen dazs ice creams that were stored at appropriate temperatures. They had the perfect texture and made for a pleasant refreshment.
The automatic coffee machine was just OK: it made espressos but were not programmed for macchiatos. The beans were overly roasted for my liking.
Service: 5/5 Very impressive.
I was greeted with a warm welcome at the front desk. The agent was knowledgeable about the usual gates of partner airlines without even checking on the computer!
The service staffs were quite attentive — empty glasses disappeared almost as soon as I put them down.
The aunty that cleans the shower room was also very cheerful and friendly, and she helped me find...
Read moreAs a seasoned traveler with a penchant for good food, I was quite looking forward to my visit to the Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Lounge at Hong Kong Airport. Unfortunately, this visit left me underwhelmed.
The lounge itself boasts the familiar Krisflyer ambiance, complete with a sizeable bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The food selection was quite extensive, offering a range of options. However, the culinary execution fell short of expectations.
The Singapore laksa, a hallmark dish of Krisflyer lounges, was disappointing. It lacked the bold, rich flavors I have enjoyed in the Singapore, London, and Sydney lounges. Similarly, the dim sum platter failed to impress. In a city renowned for its dim sum, I had higher expectations. The prawn dumplings (Hakao) lacked the signature crunchy, succulent prawns, and the siew mai was average at best.
The drink menu also left much to be desired, especially when compared to the Singapore lounge. I opted for an Old Fashioned, which turned out to be overly diluted and lacking in character. In conclusion, the Krisflyer Lounge in Hong Kong did not live up to the high standards set by its counterparts in other cities. While the setting and extensive food selection are commendable, the quality of the dishes and drinks needs significant improvement. A more satisfying culinary experience would certainly enhance the overall appeal of this lounge.
I hope this feedback helps future travelers and prompts improvements in the...
Read moreThis review is specifically about the shower in the SilverKris lounge in HK airport. Despite the spaciousness, it doesn’t really work and reflects rather poorly on SQ.
First off, the water pressure was abysmal. The only way to make it a non-failure was to stand directly underneath the shower head, set as high as possible on the pole, hoping that the extremely weak and uneven water flow will get some parts clean with the help of gravity. It’s impossible to hand-hold the shower head as the water pressure sunk to a dribble.
The shower stall had bare walls except for the nondescript shower gel and shampoo (smelt and felt cheap). Good luck to anyone trying to set down spectacles or your own facial wash, etc unless you don’t mind setting them on the floor (yuck).
Similarly, the only place to put anything by the basin was a small, dark nook directly underneath the hair dryer.
Controls for the toilet were rimmed by duct tape, and even the socket was misaligned.
One gets the feeling the entire shower area was an afterthought conceived with as low a budget as possible.
Two stars, because it’s what I imagine a two-star hotel might provide, though I may be overrating...
