The Venice of Hong Kong - Tai O Fishing Village is a must see picturesque place when visiting Hong Kong. It is accessible by taking Bus 11 from Tung Chung Station. Once reaching Tai O, we passed through an avenue full of street food items and dried seafood. The fish maw, salted fish and fermented shrimp paste were popular souvenir items. Walking around the village, we were amazed by the charm of this historic community. Stilt houses were built along the river bank. A few graffiti arts and street arts made the area more attractive. Locals there were mainly elderly people nowadays as the younger generations preferred to live in the city. However, the city was still lively with many restaurants and locals were actively maintaining the village.

Tai O is a fishing village on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, which is home to the Tanka people who have built houses on over-the-water stilts. It’s praised as a must-visit spot, one of the best things to do in HK, and as stepping back in time to an idyllic village that’s home to friendlier people of a bygone era. Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim. This is a serene place to see the fishermen at work. There are also many hills surrounding for a good hike with plenty of good air. Chinese name: 大澳漁村 Location: on the west side of Lantau Island, Islands District, Hong Kong 🇭🇰

Architecturally unique seaside village erected on wooden stilts above the water. Check out its seafood market and street food. Walk the village streets and you’ll find streetstalls offering delicacies such as grilled squid, baked oysters, very spicy whelks in shrimp sauce, deep fried seafood snacks, buns and glutinous rice mochi stuffed with peanuts. We were there on dragon boat race day and the whole village was ablaze with colour
