15 MOP ticket. The place is so nice, and they offer free professional tour guide that speaks mandarin (if you’re lucky and able to understand.) The tour will elaborate on their relationship with the history of Macao from different exhibits. Basically you will learn a brief history class after the tour. The history of Macau is very interesting.

A funny fact that most pavement of the famous attractions were paved with stones and designed in different images, mostly is waves and other symbols of sea. The surprise story is the original stones were all came from Portugal! (But the pavements we walked today mostly are rebuilt.) The reason why they transported stones in such long distance is because the Portugal trade-ships were empty when it sailed, and they needed the stones to balance the big caravel, to defense the wind and wave and prevent overturn. After the transportation, the stones would be use/sell in local. I heard 2 different story about those stones, one said the Portuguese government paved the pavement for their convenience, little by little continued their work for 1 hundred years. Another said the Portuguese sold (their) worthless stones to south China and made good money from it.

It even came out a phrase in Cantonese: sik seoi sam/(boat) eat water deep (technically means)having a deep draught (distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull) (Slang) commonly used figuratively to refer to shops or middlemen making an unreasonably high profit.

Anyway, it’s cool to know some facts about the age of discovery, the golden time...

The Macao Museum (MOP15 per person) is probably the best museum in Macau for visitors interested to learn about local history, heritage and culture.

Located within Monte Forte, next to the Ruins of St. Paul, you can easily spend 30 minutes or much longer going through 35 exhibitions spaced out over three floors at the Macao Museum. It is also well worth visiting the top level garden area where you can find nice 360 degree views of the city.

Here you can find a nice collection of artefacts, displays related Portuguese colonisation, role of religion, sea trade and other industries that have, along with local customs and traditions, shaped Macau into the place we have today.

Overall, it is a good museum providing visitors with helpful context for what they will see during your sightseeing endeavours within the Historic Centre of Macau. In this regard, it is well worth the MOP15 (USD$2) entry fee and a bit of your time during visits to Macau.

Note: The museum is open Tuesday - Sundays (10-6pm), closed on Mondays and national holidays.

Note: Other popular museums in Macau to consider include the Grand Prix Museum, Wine Museum, Maritime Museum and the...

Not long ago,I went to the Macau Museum, in the third layer of the Macao Museum, it shows the topic of Macau literature and art. I has taken two picture in that place.you can see this two picture, ,they have many Chinese Characteristics.the frist one is Bluish-white glazed human-shaped jar.and the second one is Dragon head shaped “Chiwen”.these significantly different is shape.in the Bluish-white glazed human-shaped jar,you can clearly to see it is a human, maybe she is a god woman, Such as Guanyin.and she hugs a pot,she looks very kindly. In the Dragon head shaped “Chiwen”,you can see it is a the absence of animals,Dragon,You know, dragon is a symbol of the Chinese people It represents the emperor of China. But you can see it just has a head ,it is because its other part had damage,in this angle, you will see it is smile at you.and then their same is material and their use, they are both of carving by stone, also, they are adornment.that is the different and same compare and contrast about...

A nice and hi-tech small-medium sized museum. Had a lot of interesting stories on Macao's trading route that was presented in a very interesting way and definitely can capture young kids as well as adults. The plus is at the end, when you reached the top, you reached the top of the fortress too, so you don't have to walk up to see it separately. The only big minus is the restroom - at the fortress site, it's so smelly and had no toilet paper. So we had to go back inside the museum to use the restroom. But since the smelly ones is not in the museum, I didn't deduct the star from the museum.

A collection of exhibits of old Macau. It is a time capsule, with an ideal image of Macau as a place of encounter of two cultures, the Portuguese, the Chinese and the resulting Macanese culture. Having been built in 1998 it represents the mood of the city just by the handover. It isn't too big a museum and the space is quite nice, well documented, presented and taken care of. Being underground learning about Macau's history seems perfectly adequate, more so once you come out on top of the hill and have a panoramic view of the real present city below.
