Walls of Macau — Attraction in Santo António

An interesting inclusion in the Macau World Heritage collection is the small remaining segment of the Old City Wall, found at the back of the Ruins of St. Paul, next to the small Na Tcha Temple.

This wall fragment reaches back to the mid 16th century when it would have formed a protective fortification for the Portuguese settlement at that time. As such, while not being much to see these days, it forms an important bridge to the distant colonial past of early Portuguese Macau.

An interesting thing to see at the Old City Wall is the small exhibition room that is now located within the wall. This room is a showcase for the Na Tcha Temple and provides some context into the folklore God of War called Na Tcha who is something of a unique idol here in Macau.

Overall, the Old City Wall is a quick stop only and will be most interesting to those who want to learn and discover more about Macau's oldest Portuguese presence in Macau. You can visit comfortably in just a few minutes before moving on to other sightseeing interests in this part...
