The hotel is great. This is the first hotel where I could not find any faults with the room and the bathroom. They thought about everything! The attention to detail is amazing. For eg; I always complain about not having enough hooks to hang towels; not in this hotel. I always gripe about not having enough space to lay out the toiletries; not in this hotel. They even have a small shelf over the toilet paper holder to place your phone or whatever. I always gripe about having a bath tub without a glass enclosure or curtain which leads to water going everywhere; not here. They have a bath tub and a separate shower. So no problem with water running everywhere. They even have small holder in the closet to put your ties! Talk about attention to detail! The hotel is in a great location within a few steps to the TV tower and other attractions. It is also an easy walk across to the “bund” on the other side of the river from here (more on the bund in another post). There are also two shopping malls just a few steps away for your shopping needs. The metro is also a very short 5 mins walk which takes you to from/to airport. Line 2 is a direct route from airport to Lujiazui area where the hotel is located. Most of the metro stations have elevators and escalators so it’s very convenient even if you have large luggage. The fare is 8 Yuan per person; unbelievable cheap and the trip takes about 35mins (more on the metro in another post). The staff at the hotel were great and always greeted me every time I walked by the lobby and in the elevator and very helpful. Even though not everyone spoke English, most of them knew some basic English to help you with your needs. However, for more detailed or complex discussions, you most probably have to look for someone who is fluent in English. But there’s always someone around. The place is very clean and well maintained except the carpets in the rooms may need to be replaced. They were not bad but considering how nice and spic and span everything else looked, the carpets looked dated. Can’t comment on the food as I did not eat there. There are plenty of restaurants and fast food places around (McDonald’s, KFC, Starbucks and the like). And the malls have food courts with many restaurants.

What superlatives are there left to say about the Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai. This splendid hotel possesses the old-world, colonial Chinese elegance. My room had a chandelier over the bed! The staff at Shangri-La are exceptionally friendly and eager to assist all guests. The location is wonderful with the Lujiazui Metro 300-meters away, very near the Huangpu River, and every type of conceivable shopping within two city blocks. Taxis are everywhere as well. The full-service Lotus grocery store is in the lower level of the shopping mall next door. Terrific food court in that mall as well. The amenities in-room are what you would expect from a 5-Star hotel. A wide range of toiletries in the bath, with shower and bathtub. Two fluffy bathrobes, with disposable room slippers. Tea kettle, complementary water bottles, and refrigerator. The complementary Wifi was strong, but be aware the Chinese government blocks many western websites like anything Google, and Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. The bed was huge and very comfy, and the room was dark and quiet for sleeping with black-out drapes. Very nice workout room and pool, and don't miss the Happy Hour in the lounge on the 36th floor. The views are outstanding, especially at night with Shanghai lit up. The only detraction both me and my colleagues experienced in their rooms as well, was a slight sewer odor in the bathrooms. This is another reason to always drink something bottled or canned while in China......never from the tap.

Great for a couple of days! What I stayed here. With the Amex card, you are able to get complimentary daily breakfast and also 100$ credit towards hotel F&B. The room was clean. I also used the gym, it was relatively big, there are a lot of machines. About 4 treadmills... they have this tab on the machine that you toggle over if you have used it, but it isn't as friendly as there isn't someone there cleaning all the time and there are no cleaning items to self clean. The breakfast was great! there is a wide range of food available. On weekends it get quite busy and you may lose your seat if you get up and didn't leave anything on the table. There are food ranging from eastern to western! Worth it. I also ordered room service, which i thought was expensive for China but still decent. Environment There are 2 buildings, one that has the lake view and the other is grand. I stayed in the grand building. There is a mall right next to the hotel, so you can easily walk over to shop and also eat as there are a lot of restaurants next door as well. It isn't friendly if you like to take the public transit, the nearest metro station is around 6-8 mins walk. It can get hot very easily... Niceness of the staff Super Super nice staff. Always ready to assist. They greet you as you enter, as you leave. Dollar For a 5 star hotel, it was very reasonable 170-250$ per night depending on when you go. Yes? I would return but just to experience the bfast again.

It was our first time staying with Shangrila, Pudong and we really like it. We were offered room upgrade but chose not to take it because we wanted the original room with the view of The Bund. The overall service was great but could be better if the receptionists had more smile on their face. As we were trying to check in early but our room was not ready yet, so Mr Sean Li Yun Long, who heads the room operations invited us to the lounge for some drinks first while we waited comfortably for our access cards there. This showed how attentive they are. The breakfast buffet spread was also great but its recommended to go early to beat the crowd. On Christmas eve, we were also surprised to find Christmas cookies/cake in our room when we returned. All these things add up to an overall great experience during our stay there. Hope they can continue to maintain the high standards. My wife was already saying that she wants to stay with Shangrila the next time we visit Shanghai again. Thank you Team Shangrila!
