We loved Sukia Park and zipline tours so much and took advantage of almost everything they had to offer. We ziplined, visited the beautiful butterfly garden, enjoyed the cafe, saw the crocodiles and probably best of all took advantage of the fantastic night jungle tour. A special thanks to Lester who was a joyful and welcoming face each day we visited.
The zip line was excellent, they were very patient and safety conscious the entire time. The guides were reassuring and extremely experienced. We had two kids with us, a teenager and a tween, and I felt very happy and safe with the way the guides handled their safety and enjoyment of the experience. The best part was that the guides were very careful to get good pictures and we even saw a lot of wildlife during our experience. Included in our photos that we received from our zipline experience were wonderful images of the wildlife that we saw during the day! This is a must-do activity for all able-bodied people. Just a side note, our zipline tour got rescheduled due to a thunderstorm and we were very happy about that. We loved that the expert guides had such concerns for safety that they helped us to make an excellent choice so that our family was safe and had a great experience.
The butterfly garden was small but extremely awesome. We saw caterpillars, frogs, chrysalises, butterflies and learned so much. We went on a self-guided walk around the butterfly garden, but then got to learn so much more on the night jungle tour with our guide who was so well informed. A definite must-see! The cafe within the butterfly garden is magnificent! I ordered a carbonated water and received the most beautiful concoction imaginable! Little garnishes, herbs and fresh ingredients... The desserts were divine. I will think about this Cafe often. The crocodiles right next door were fascinating and we learned so much more about them during the night jungle tour.
My very favorite thing we did with Sukia Park and zipline tours was the nighttime jungle tour! We did a night time jungle tour 18 years ago and have looked forward to it ever since so this was a must do on our Costa Rican bucket list. Our guide, Juan, taught us so much during our visit. He was extremely receptive to our interest in snakes and even diverted into a separate trail to make sure we got to see some. His love and enthusiasm for local flora and fauna was obvious and a joy to be a part of. Costa Rica is lucky to have such a fantastic person educating visitors about the mysterious creatures that are out in the jungle at night! We really appreciated the way he interacted with the kids on the tour, and made sure that we got to see interesting plants and animals of all sizes. My very favorite thing was the glass frog tadpole clump that we saw on a leaf, and the magnificent display of hunting that he helped us witness at the crocodile exhibit. Juan really understands what a visitor from North America might want to see. In fact, everyone at sukia made sure that we didn't miss a single moment of Costa Rican natural beauty. We are so grateful that they are willing to share so much of their beautiful home with us. Would definitely recommend...
Read moreAs someone who is working in animal conservation, as the staff told us they have rescued crocodiles from trafficking, we booked the crocodile tour and the butterfly garden. However, this was a really difficult review to write because of our mixed feelings: on one hand, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and knowleadgeable. You could see how happy and passionate they were to show us around in the jungle to try to spot animals, even tho that was not included on our tour. HOWEVER... On the other hand, even tho we loved the staff, that embodied perfecty the " pura vida" spirit and was super helpful to help us get a tour for Manuel Antonio, i felt like the "sanctuary" and "garden" were not as ethical as we thought it would be. Starting with the garden : thats basically a cage with butterflies being breeded in it. We did not really understand why they breeded this butterflies, and i thought that they were breeded to be releasead into the wild. The guide was not not being super transparent about it, he only mentioned at the beginning how expensive some.butteflies could get in the usa, which made me suspect they were selling it as pets or for display for collectors. As someone who learned what this type of trade could be bad for conservation (by creating a consumer demand), i felt really not at ease. Regarding the crocodiles sanctuary we visited right after, there was Indeed some crocodiles rescued from illegal trade. HOWEVER, that seemed to be the case only for some of them, and the guide was once again not really transparent and straighforward when i asked questions about the other crocodiles and their story. For example, i understand that one of the crocodile was brought there because found in a house during a flooding in Quepos : why not release them directly in the Wild then ? Also, there were some baby crocodiles, and it did not seem they would release them in the wild. So in a nutshell : incredibly nice people, nice location, but the sanctuary parts seems very shady and felt more...
Read moreSukia park was SO good that we went three times. The experience wasn't only just the amazing natural beauty surprisingly soon after leaving the road -- such a hidden gem -- it was also the warm, kind and knowlegeable staff who run and own the park... they made sure that the tour was interesting and fun, and most importantly, extremely safe. Paying close attention to their safety protocols, I really liked what I saw, not only the training, but how they operated their radios and communicated with each other. One of our guides knew literally everything about every tree, animal and insect, and blew us away with explanations of everything we asked about. The zip lines opened up to such great landscapes, and we saw a beautiful waterfall (rappelling down there is definitely a great addition -- do it if you get the chance!), and there was plenty of great wildlife including a sloth hanging in a tree a few meters away (probably the closest we'll ever get to one), not to mention monkeys. The tour was so beautiful that my wife conquered her long time fear of heights just to do it again, and we went a total of 3 times. While that was totally enough to make an amazing day, we also loved the butterfly garden with close encounters with the blue morpho butterfly -- with an excellent explanation and education about the life cycle and the insects there. I almost forgot to mention the enclosed crocodiles there too, of all sizes! Definitely go if you're in Manuel Antonio... Diego has been making zip lines for a long time, and he is a true master of the art. There's no other zip lines anywhere nearby that compare, and this is certainly worth more than the price of admission, especially given the level of service and uniqueness of the experience. Can't wait to return...
