I should note that I ate here in January of 2024, so it may have improved since then. I will start with the good part: there was a nice selection of vegan options, which made it easy for everyone in our group to find options.
The atmosphere was nice, but cramped and there is no bathroom. Instead, you have to walk outside the restaurant to a bathroom located a few storefronts away. The views are nice.
I ordered a martini with gin, and they gave me one with vodka. Despite it not being what I ordered, it was an okay martini.
The service was frankly abysmal. We waited almost two hours for our food. When it finally arrived, the waiter had not put in the order for one of the members of our group, and she had to wait another 45 minutes for her dish. Usually in this situation, the waiter will comp the dish, provide something like a free desert, or at least say sorry. The waiter did not apologize, he simply said “sometimes it happens”.
Despite the poor service for us, a man who appeared to be the friend of the head chef/ owner received great service. Within twenty minutes of ordering, he got his food. After his food was served, the chef sat down with him for quite a long time while we still had to wait an hour and a half for our food after that. The chef seems to have quite a large ego as well; his face is plastered all over the restaurant, such as on the napkin holders.
When the food finally arrived, it was very bland. I had to add way more soy sauce to my dish than I normally would just to make it taste like something.
The biggest issue with the food was not the blandness, but the fact that the two people in our group who ordered sushi ended up extremely sick the next day. While it could have been unrelated, given that only the two people who ate sushi got sick, and no one else in our group contracted what they had despite all staying together, I am lead to believe that it was not just a stomach bug, but instead food poisoning. This made those two members of our group miss out on some of the best parts of our trip.
There’s many better options for dinner in...
Read moreI'll be honest, we shouldn't have stopped here because it was late and we already ate dinner...but what's wrong with a second dinner? I talked my friends into going to Enso with me because they advertised vegan options. They had some delicious sounding vegan options on their menu and I wish I could've tried it all, but I ended up getting one roll as my snack (lol). It was yummy and exactly what I was craving. There was also a curry soup that my friend ordered that had great flavor! Obviously I didn't actually try any fish but the vegan roll I had was great. The place was cute, I just wish we got there before the sun set. We sat outside but the sun was down so it was a pitch black view. It would have been the ocean and sky view had we been their earlier. It is pricey, but it's the tourist area and it's sushi - nothing out of the ordinary. Give it a try if you are in Manuel Antonio and want to eat something aside from casado...
