U Venues — Attraction in New Cairo City

This is a newly opened mall, and when I first saw that they had a parent-friendly restroom, I was honestly impressed. That’s still a rarity in Egypt. I even recommended this place to many fellow moms, thinking it was a family-friendly environment.

But as it turns out, that “family-friendliness” was only surface-level — because what I experienced here was neglect, discrimination, and a complete lack of empathy toward parents.

My baby had a diaper blowout while we were dining at one of the restaurants. He was crying uncontrollably, so I rushed to the nearest restroom — the women’s bathroom. Inside, I found no changing station, no baby facilities of any kind. So I did what any desperate, responsible parent would do: I placed my baby on our own stroller, discreetly in the corner, and started changing him. I didn’t use a stall, didn’t block the sink, didn’t cause any mess, didn’t expose my baby — just quietly trying to clean him up.

And yet, I was interrupted again and again by the cleaning staff, who insisted I had to go to the basement level if I wanted to change a diaper. This was despite the fact that my baby was in distress, covered in poop, and needed immediate care.

Let me be clear: there was no sign anywhere saying I couldn’t change a diaper in this restroom. No notice, no guidance, no alternative provided. I was simply doing my best in a poorly equipped space — and for that, I was treated like I was doing something wrong.

When I was at my most helpless, overwhelmed, trying to calm a crying child, I was met not with compassion, but with pressure and dismissal.

My husband immediately reported the incident to mall management. Their response? They said we “shouldn’t have changed the diaper there” — but that they would retrain the cleaning staff because her approach “may not have been appropriate.”

So basically: they shifted the problem back to us, and offered a token gesture of “staff training” to cover themselves.

And when we asked why it’s not allowed to change diapers there, they actually said: “Some customers might feel uncomfortable seeing that.”

Excuse me? Seriously? We’re in a restroom. My baby is six months old. He’s crying. He needs his diaper changed. And that — that — is what makes people “uncomfortable”?

I honestly thought this was one of the more modern, open, international malls in New Cairo. Its design, branding, and restaurant curation all aim for a premium image. I genuinely believed this was a place that cared about quality and customer experience.

But clearly, it’s all for show — no depth, no real values. What, rich people’s babies don’t need diaper changes? 😀

I’m truly disappointed. This experience has completely changed the way I see this mall. I saw some reviews also talked about similar problems. Obviously, the management doesn’t really look into the problem. From now on, I will be much more cautious before recommending this place to any family visitors.

There are many expat families here — I’m one of them. And I can tell you: This has nothing to do with cultural differences. This is about basic design, basic dignity, and basic human empathy.

Mothers — no matter where they’re from — deserve to be treated with respect. Imagine if it were your own mother being treated this way. Or you, as a mother, being told to “stop what you’re doing and move elsewhere” while your baby is in distress. Would you accept that?

If this mall truly wants to appeal to high-end, international families, then stop relying on appearances. Start with real empathy. Real inclusivity. Real respect for parents...

I absolutely love this place! They put so much effort into decorating for every holiday, and the vibes are amazing—it really puts you in a great mood. Even on regular days (not just during the holidays), it’s still a pretty enjoyable experience. There are tons of restaurants, shops, and clothing stores opening up, and the location is perfect.
