Summary: This place is perfect for divers and anyone who enjoys peace, safety, and great people — all at amazing prices. The rooms are good enough for what you pay, and the overall vibe is calm and welcoming.
Location: It’s close to restaurants, a supermarket, and the beach, yet far enough from the loud late-night noise to stay peaceful. You’re about a 3-minute walk from the busy cafés and music spots, but Shams itself stays quiet and relaxed. The on-site restaurant has a talented chef. It’s a bit pricey compared to others in Dahab, but the quality makes it worth it.
Rooms: They’re decent for the price — clean, quiet, and each one has its own Wi-Fi (average speed, around 5/10). The restaurant Wi-Fi is much faster. Bathrooms are very small and don’t have locks, but they’re clean. AC only goes down to 21°C. Blankets could be longer, but again — fair for the price. Overall, they do the job.
Service: The staff are incredibly friendly. I met amazing people like Captain Sharif, Ali, Zein, Nada, Ashraf, and many others. Check-in and check-out were smooth. Everyone was helpful, smiling, and genuinely welcoming.
Dive Centre: Professional and well-organized. Gear was checked thoroughly by Ali — big shoutout to him. Dive planning and site briefings by Captain Sharif were solid, and Uncle Anwar drove us to the sites and was always helpful. Safety protocols were followed, though some extra fees (like entry permits to certain dive sites) were annoying and could’ve been covered by the center.
Facilities: The on-site café and restaurant are excellent — calm, with respectful staff and great service. Even when I didn’t have enough cash, they let me pay the next morning. Slightly expensive, but it’s worth it for the peaceful, no-noise atmosphere.
Atmosphere: Quiet, social when you want it to be. Great for solo travelers, couples, and families who want to relax in a chill environment without chaos.
Value for Money: Outstanding. You get more than what you pay for — especially with the people, location, and dive services.
Final Verdict: Would I come again? Absolutely. Would I recommend it? 100% — for anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly, and dive-friendly...
Read moreWe stayed at Shams from 4/9 till 9/9/2020 And I am going to write a full detailed review since there are no recent reviews. The check-in is around 1-2PM. However we arrived around 10AM and the process took 20minutes and we were already in our rooms.
Shams is one if the few hotels that allows pets regardless the size and will allow them to stay inside the room,so we booked a bungalow with 2 beds with breakfast At first we thought that the bungalow would be by the sea; it was next to the entrance but we knew that before confirming the reservation.
The rooms are spacious and most of them can hold up to 3 beds and very very clean but the bathroom was very small and the lighting was weak *we checked the ordinary rooms and the bathroom and lighting were better.
The diving center seemed clean and professional and I talked with one of the stuff there and they were friendly and nice but I didn't get the chance to book any dives. And it was always busy with people coming and going.
The restaurant/cafe was next to the sea and the breakfast was a set menu with 5-6 options to choose one of them we tried multiple options Both the quantity and quality is OK. They start taking orders at 8:15 AM with slow service so if you have any early appointment or a trip you can't depend on them.
The outdoor area was sandy not hardscape so we had to take the shoes/slippers the moment we step in the room although this same issue was an advantage when it comes dog-wise. There is no pool in this hotel unlike others.
The sea area in this hotel is for snorkeling/diving only even without stairs to it and they do use other nearby beach photos which made me assume we can use the sea in this area so we had to go to another areas to swim in the sea.
The stuff like Gehad and Ali were super friendly and sweet ,but there were also others who made me question myself why did I choose this place.
The location is EXCELLENT. It is less than 5 minutes walking distance to the active area of 'el mamsha' with all other amenities less than 2 min walking
Regarding the price We got a good rate which made it acceptable, but without that it would have been expensive and...
