I’m Catholic and found it despicable anyone would charge to get into a church, or any house of worship.

The admission is only $2, and I would have put that (or more) in a donation box anyway (or in the collection if at mass) but the difference is paying a TICKETED ADMISSION to a house of God; .… that I will not do.

I then asked what the mass times were and the guy there pointed to a sign. I went to take a picture of the sign (keep in mind this is outside the church) and he stops me and points to another sign that states ‘No photography in this area’.

Admission is $1 if you’re a national. It’s $2 if you’re a foreigner. They don’t even hide the discrimination. And while it’s only a $1 difference it, again, is the principle of the matter. Aren’t we all the same in the eyes of God? Aren’t all the non-native people foreigners? I can only imagine the uproar back home if we charged the foreigners more for admission to places.

At my parish several times a year we have a missionary (usually a priest) visit from Latin America asking for donations. Maybe we should start charging them admission. This experience will certainly color my thoughts next time we have one visiting.

Today I’m ashamed to be a Catholic. No wonder so many people hate the...

I was truly looking forward to visiting El Rosario Church and experiencing its stunning colors and architecture in person. Unfortunately, I was only able to admire it from the outside. I went on two separate occasions, both following the posted opening hours at the entrance, but found the church closed both times.

Eventually, someone informed me that access is through a side street—not clearly indicated. When I finally made it to the correct entrance, they had just closed for Mass. I kindly explained to the person locking the doors that I was a Christian visitor who had come from far away and had struggled to find the entrance. I asked for just a few moments to step inside, pray, and leave respectfully, but he declined and would not make an exception.

It was disappointing not to be able to enter such a remarkable place of worship. I hope the administration considers improving signage and being more understanding with travelers who genuinely come...
