What an impressive infrastructure with spectacularly magnificent lift structure to allow maritime services to pass through. I was brave enough to attempt crossing this bridge but gave up halfway due to the strong winds. You can actually cross from Quai de Bacalan (same side as Cité du Vin) to Quai de Brazza, north of La Bastide, Stalingrad Square. It's a curiosity thing for me as a tourist but really worth visiting. Just a bit of trivial, it was named Pont Bacalan-Bastide but renamed Pont Jacques Chaban Delmas after the former mayor of Bordeaux. Absolutely...

Impressing architecture of a bridge (surely built to let cruise liners pass). For pedestrians there are some spaces to sit and take photos of the pylons or the view from the bridge. Offeres nice views to Cite du Vin, to Pont d'Aquitaine, and to the city of Bordeaux. Reachable by tramway or by walk along the river Garonne. Walking along the riverside vis-à-vis Bordeaux city centre leads you through former harbour areas that have been turned into parks and leisure areas (including the Botanical Garden).

The 4 pillars lift the middle of the bridge up to allow ships to pass through. Very impressive structure. Had a walk to admire the structure and would recommend doing so. It has a schedule of the lifting of the bridge at their main website: https://sedeplacer.bordeaux-metropole.fr/fermeture-pont-chaban-delmas?hl=en-GB Highly recommended to schedule your trip to watch the lifting of the bridge and watch the ships go through.
