I recently visited this museum and, honestly, I did not enjoy it.
First, I want to highlight that most of the reviews here on Google seem to confuse this place with Monet’s House and Gardens (which are absolutely worth visiting). The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny is located just across the street and has no direct connection to Monet’s home.
The museum does not have a permanent collection of Claude Monet’s paintings. It’s very small (only four or five rooms) with just a handful of works on display — and many of them are not even true Impressionist paintings, but rather modern reinterpretations of the theme. The ticket price is completely unreasonable for what’s offered.
To make matters worse, I was required to leave my small backpack in a locker (something even the Louvre doesn’t require) just to walk through this tiny museum.
Don’t waste your time. Just visit Monet’s House and Gardens, or stay in Paris and go to the museums that actually hold significant Monet collections, like the Musée d’Orsay or the Musée...
Read moreUnfortunately, the reception of the museum was very disrespectful. Both, me and my friend, are studying at the Beaux Arts and we study history of art on a daily basis so we thought we could have a discount as it is stipulated on the site. Yet, they refused it although the goal of the reduction is precisely to benefit students who constantly study the matter to enter cultural places freely, meaning that refusing us doesn’t make sense at all. The ladies at the reception wouldn’t even let us discuss and roughly moved us aside (after cutting us off) to assist the mean couple complaining behind us (and almost cursing on our faces on top of that) even though we literally just arrived at the counter. We are clients just like them but they treated us miserably. However, Claude Monet’s house and garden reception was very welcoming, unlike the...
Read moreI would highly recommend starting the tour here at the museum before Monet’s house and garden. It is such an artist heaven. With the exhibition there is plenty background info to help ground your visit to the rest of sights. You will appreciate monet’s waterlily pond ans his lush garden so much more. Tucked in Giverny, the secluded scenery is perfect in spring time. Flowers and bushes are lush and vibrant. The amazing feel of walking through the Japanese bridge in Monet’s paintings draped with aromatic flowers is hard to describe in words. You will just have to be there to experience. The place does get crowded with tourist groups, so early the day seems to be...
