Food was decent but the service was incredibly rude...we had just visited the Claude Monet Hardens and house and had a lovely time and strolled through the quaint and beautiful streets where Money strolled. We saw the restaurant which has an old world feel and decided to pop in. We were met with indifference at best and seated at a nice table by the window. We sorta all three looked at each other...something.felt off energy wise. We knew enough French to order our food and communicate the basics. But the server didn’t even make eye contact with us while he wrote down our order. It was little surprise when he got one of the dishes wrong. Our dishes also all came out at different times and there was no explanation as to when the others would arrive. Food was put down with no comment. My older friend turned to me and said she had never felt so rudely treated and we set about trying to figure out what it might be. I was a server for years and so was my friend and we treat other servers well and make certain allowances for bad days or kitchens getting backed up or the wrong order...but please at least apologize or smile or make eye contact if this happens. By the time my friends meal finally arrived many minutes after the rest, she had lost her appetite from the ill treatment. We asked politely for a Togo container or box and the waiter refused. At this point, I know some restaurants scoff at takeouts but I got up and went to the bar and told the waiter...get me foil and get me a bag. Which he did. I then wrapped the damn thing myself. We were in France for 13 days and had many wonderful experiences and people were so very kind in Paris to us, especially when we spoke some French and were seen to be trying. This was the worst experience for the three of us on the entire trip and we talked about it for weeks. It put a stain on our visit to Giverny as beautiful as the rest of the day was. We tried not to let it get us down, but it felt like it was because we were American or something. There was no other explanation because there’s no way the would stay open if they treated everyone that way. The food and ambiance were decent and a town parade went by the window at the end of our meal...
Read moreMy partner and I took a good friend to Musee Hotel Baudy for a special reunion lunch while we were holidaying in France. We chose the restaurant because of an enjoyable meal we had there a few years ago. However, on this occasion the experience left much to be desired. For a start, the 'meet and greet' was non-existent. Then, the waitress who served us displayed a total indifference as we gave our order. It was therefore of little surprise that the drinks served were not as ordered. When the error was drawn to the waitress's attention she coolly informed us they were what we had requested and made no effort to rectify the situation. This was instead left to a colleague. We all decided on the Assiette du Soleil, which turned out to be a large quantity of lettuce leaves, three or four cherry tomatoes, a variety of what appeared to be marinated vegetables, all topped with a few wafer thin pieces of ham and cheese. Had we not been entertaining our friend we would have complained at a price of just under twenty-three euros per serving. At least the wine was of fair quality but this didn't compensate for substandard, overpriced food served badly. This was a special occasion marred by a business that takes advantage of its privileged location and diners who, possibly in the main, will only eat there just the once. We have, by contrast, eaten there twice. There will not be...

Located in Giverny, in an old historic hotel, Hotel Baudy, which is apparently is because several American painters, and other famous French painters hung out there. The structure and character of the old building is still there. Little was changed as the kitchen is in a separate wing and the washrooms are across a gravel courtyard out back in an outbuilding.
Across the street is a quaint, gravel courtyard under trees surrounded by hedges with small café tables. We ate there.
The staff was very present, attentive, helpful and friendly and funny photo bombing us, cracking jokes and offering to take our pictures.
The Grilled King Prawns in Garlic Butter were just that - six very large King prawns in shell pan seared in a parsley, garlic butter with a little pepper blend with extra butter sauce for dipping. A large serving of tender crisp haricot verts was on the side with mashed potatoes full of more garlic butter (no vampires anywhere!) and two succulent roasted yellow tomatoes. A very pleasing, tasty meal!
Omelette Baudy was a large three egg omelette filled with duck confit and sauteed baby potatoes. Accompanied by a salad lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers) dressed in a house-made balsamic vinaigrette. Omelette and salad both very good!
A delightful meal...
